The Hamilcast: A Hamilton Podcast

Marc de la Cruz recently made history as the first ever Asian American actor to play the role of Hamilton on Broadway. After falling in love with In the Heights and realizing what was possible on Broadway, he wondered if he’d ever get the chance to work with The Cabinet and SPOILER it’s happening!! In Marc’s first episode, we talk about his journey to Broadway and his experiences with High School Musical, If/Then, and Allegiance

Mike Moise’s third episode covers a LOT of ground. In addition to lots more Hamilton goodness Mike talks about playing softball with the cast and crew of Hamilton in the Broadway Show League, why A Winter’s Ball into Helpless is one of the most satisfying (heyooo!) parts of the show to conduct, and we go INNNNNNNNN on Leonard Bernstein and West Side Story.

In Mike Moise’s second ep, we really get into the #TeamMusic of it all. From what he does for his pre-Hamilton piano warmup, to diving into the amazingness of What’d I Miss and The Room Where It Happens, to how he taught himself to play Ableton tracks and saving the show by playing them during a performance, Mike has stories for days! Not to mention the story about Chris Jackson that starts at a Marshalls and ends on the golf course.

Mike Moise, Hamilton’s Assistant Conductor, is super fun and full of energy. He started his music career at four years old by plunking out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera BY EAR and by the end of his first episode Mike tells us the story of playing Andy Blankenbuehler’s Cats for ALW himself. But before that, Mike tells the story of how he had lived in NYC for less than a week before Sir Alex Lacamoire called him in to audition for Hamilton.

Scott Wasserman is Hamilton's Ableton Programmer, and one of the nicest and most fun people around. Scott has been with Hamilton since the beginning and in this first episode he talks about how he helped create the sounds and effects not played by the (incredibly talented) orchestra. The theme of Kurt Crowley's third episode (and all of his episodes, really) is "beautifully nerdy." We talk Kurt's impeccable mashups, conducting big moments in the show (the big WAITs in "Wait For It" and that final moment with Eliza), and Kurt gives advice for anyone who wants to be a Broadway musician. 

Kurt Crowley is back for round two and this week we're talking about how Hamilton has its very own Department of the Treasury (aka the music department) and how they are - still! - constantly making sure the music is on the up and up. Kurt also gives insight into the rehearsal process now that HamFans are being cast in the show and they have to unlearn the album, which is a lot harder than you may think. AND! Kurt goes in on the "Toronto/Company Screams in Chaos" part of "The Room Where it Happens."

Kurt Crowley, Hamilton Broadway's music director, kicks of 2019 with three mindblowing episodes. In this first episode Kurt pulls back the curtain on the #SNOB tradition (Saturday Night on Broadway), tells stories from the earliest days of Hamilton, goes in on his friendship/working relationship with Alex Lacamoire, and plays tons of motifs and musical gems because OF COURSE I MADE SURE THE KEYBOARD WAS PRESENT!
