GeekNights 20120501 - Luke Crane on the Mouse Guard RPG | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we have as our guest Luke Crane, designer of the wonderful Mouse Guard tabletop role playing game. We discuss what Mouse Guard is, where it came from, and what makes it unique. We actually had Luke on the show a while ago to talk more generally about role playing games, so check that out while you're here!

GeekNights 20120425 - Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we preview, based on the first three episodes streaming at FUNimation's site, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Minen-the-third-fujiko-mine">Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. It's pretty good. In the news, an incident or two from Anime Boston 2012 have been making the rounds with the usual locked thread response, and Tor abandons DRM in a move that shouldn't be as bold as it appears in light of the rest of the publishing industry. In more local news, we'll be at Connecticon (and so be should you), Zenkaikon, MoCCA Fest, PAX Prime, and maybe Otakon!

GeekNights 20120423 - The Age Old Problem | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we discuss one of the most ancient and vexxing problems in software, technology, and progress: the principled stubbornness without an underlying functional argument. AKA, why this guy should have added a semicolon. In the news, Intel unveils Ivy Bridge, and some billionaires and to mine an asteroid. In more local news, we'll be at Connecticon (and so be should you), Zenkaikon, MoCCA Fest, PAX Prime, and maybe Otakon!

GeekNights 20120419 - The Hunger Games | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on the GeekNights Book Club, we review Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. It's catching like wildfire, and dubious as we were, we had to see what all the fuss was about. The verdict? It's pretty good. Not great. Not particularly memorable. But, an enjoyable read well worth its short length and engaging story. Also, Rym hipstered up with some PBRs at Control-Flow. The next book (Scott's choice) will be 1Q84 by Haruki-Murakami.

 GeekNights 20120417 - PAX East 2012 and Mafia-likes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we return at the turn of the tide, having recovered from PAX, hopefully in time for PAX! We bring you some initial coverage of PAX East 2012, and then consider Werewolf, or Mafia, or Beantown: whatever you call it, we present the Mafia-likes.

GeekNights 20120403 - PAX East 2012 and Angry Birds Space | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we present our succinct review of Angry Birds Space, but not before outlining everything we've got lined up for PAX East 2012! In the news, Scott GeekBites Tabletop and the King's Gambit may finally be (mostly) solved.

GeekNights 20120325 - Tech News Roundup March 2012 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, it's a Tech News Roundup! We consider the NHTSA's recommendation to cripple car navigation systems, the NHTSA's revelation that US driver's education is wrong about at least one thing, Facebook's battle to protect your passwords, an MIT professor's prediction that in 50 years we can end disabilities, Japan's fear of free speech on the Internet, and the battle over the custody costs of Megaupload's data.

GeekNights 20120322 - Rym in India: Part One | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, Rym shares the scantest beginnings of his experiences traveling in Mumbai and Hyderabad, India. In the lounge, we consider the unique advantages of satire in the Daily show, as well as an interesting story highlighting how, if you're rich and clever enough, you can indeed break the bank. Also, ConnectiCon 2012 Panel/Workshop submissions are open! PAX, like Winter, is coming. Don't forget our Youtube Channel!

GeekNights 20120320 - Trigger and Abobo's Big Adventure | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, Daddy two reviews! Now that Scott's beaten it, we talk about Abobo's Big Adventure, but not before we review Trigger!, which is from the same people who brought us the wonderful Spot-It! (Spoilers: it's actually pretty mediocre, and definitely a disappointment next to Spot-It). In the news, Wil Wheaton's Tabletop is a thing, Game Gear games are coming to the 3DS, and Nintendo is trying to make multiplayer more intuitive despite their (sarcastically) glowing history of this. Also, ConnectiCon 2012 Panel/Workshop submissions are open!

GeekNights 20120314 - Order of the Stick | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we review the fantastic comic by Rich Burlew: Order of the Stick. Why yes, it happens to be a webcomic. In the news, Daryl Surat is heading to neither PAX nor Anime Boston, but to Sakura-con, for one very important reason, Scott geekbites Tezuka's Princess Knight (slow news day).

GeekNights 20120312 - Network Mounted Storage | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, without getting into any deep technical, boring detail, we talk about network mounted filesystems and the like (SMB, CIFS, NFS, DRBD, etc...). In the news, Rym is back from India and is still tired of the TSA and its attempt to suppress further information showing how useless it is, New York's data are increasingly openly available, and California looks to legalize automated cars following Nevada's progress.

GeekNights 20120229 - Sailor Moon SuperS Movie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, by Scott's request, we hit up some Sailor Moon with the Sailor Moon SuperS Movie: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Super S: The 9 Sailor Soldiers Unite! Miracle of the Black Dream Hole (????????????SuperS ??????????????????????????! But first, Master Keaton returns, along with Arakawa Under the Bridge and Bastard, and Japan's culture around piracy is stridently different from US attitudes.

 GeekNights 20120227 - Filtering Content | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about content filtering, but not before a great discussion on OSX Gatekeeper and all of its ramifications (including our bet that Apple will drop the opt-out option within three years and stop selling Macs entirely within five), a good discussion of how we'll be first in line to gargoyle it up with some Google Goggles and a surprisingly long discussion of the Star Wars watching order debate (see The Machete Order).

GeekNights 20120221 - A Thousand and One Nights | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, now that Scott has also played it, we discuss Meguey Baker's fantastic A Thousand and One Nights tabletop role playing game. In the news, we talk about why football is so threatened by iPads and why splash screens anger us. Don't forget to check out our Twitter (@geeknights), forum, and Youtube channel!
