 GeekNights 20130530 - Farts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about farts. More importantly, "Why do tiny silent farts, smell worse then big loud farts?" We consider the fattest guy and the smallest wheeled briefcase. We ponder Scott's lost water bottle and new umbrellas. We expound on PAX's abbreviated hours in light of its extra day. We think about changing facial hair. We wonder how we became the biggest citation for Dudebro. All of this, plus farts.

GeekNights 20130528 - King of Tokyo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, returning triumphant from Anime Boston, we review Richard Garfield's King of Tokyo. It's a great warmup game, but it made us realize that far too few of you have ever played Yahtzee. We also discuss the new Xbox1 and the GTX780. Stay tuned for ConnectiCon and PAX Australia!

GeekNights 20130520 - Tech News Roundup May 2013 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we run through a tech news roundup, covering Yahoo's acquisition of Tumblr, Yahoo's updates to Flickr, the FDA's upcoming decisions regarding triclosan in antibacterial soap, the first real augmented reality overlay glasses, and Yahoo in general. Rym challenges you to set up MRTG, and we talk at length about Scott's newfound love of reality television thanks to Strip Search and Kitchen Nightmares.

GeekNights 20130514 - Passwords and Cheat Codes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we nominally talk about passwords and cheat codes (e.g., why PAKING PAKING PAKING PAKING and 8uuuuu uuuuuu uuuuuu uuuuuu work the way they do). We also talk at length about why World of Warcraft is fading so quickly, the Stanley Cup playoffs, and a new Adventure Time game is coming.

 GeekNights 20130508 - Adventure Time! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, it's Adventure Time! (Scott wouldn't sing the song). In the news, Venture Brothers is starting up a new season soon, physical media continues to die, and Princess Knight is getting a remastered release (but dub only).

GeekNights 20130506 - When your Meat Dies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we consider what happens (and should happen) to your bits (i.e., your emails, tweets, hard drive, and collected digital output of a human lifespan), when your meat stops working (i.e., you die). Law, society, human drama, and fear make it a much more complicated issue than you might realize. Do the dead have rights? Should they? In the news, the Ask.com Toolbar is malware, Ninite is the closest thing to a Windows repo you'll ever find, and Google Authenticator just implements TOTP, which you can totally use for two-factor authentication in anything. Also, Adobe updated their software suite to be subscription only (and this is a good thing).

 GeekNights 20130502 - Camping | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on the GeekNights Lounge, we discuss camping. Several people we know have never been properly camping. Fires, hobo meals, pooping in the woods: it's all here! We also ridicule the remaining self-described anarchists who pull crap like this every May Day.

GeekNights 20130430 - Monaco: What's Yours is Mine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, having waited since 2010 for this, we finally are able to review the fantastic Monaco. TL;DL: It's an unqualified "must buy." Recall that we interviewed Andy Schatz on the subject once. Also, Counter-Strike: GO gets an update, bringing back a classic map and a widely misunderstood Operation Payback, and Papers Please looks extremely promising.

 GeekNights 20130424 - Anime we're not watching | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about some anime we knew of, but never bothered to watch, as well as anime we watched for a while, but then stopped. From the shounen fighting shows that had a few good starting episodes following by neverending fights (Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Yuyu Hakusho, etc...) to the crappy knockoff TV show reboots of otherwise good shows (El Hazard: The Wanderers, Tenchi TV, Lodoss), from shows we straight ignored despite being constantly talked about (Nadesico) to those we watched more than half of before just stopping (Ergo Proxy, Kaze no Yojimbo). Some shows just aren't worth watching (until you're old and have nothing better to do: Legend of the Galactic Heroes, GaoGaiGar). Before that, Rym gives a more detailed review of Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World), which is basically a psychic 1984, and Monaco is real and playable!

GeekNights 20130422 - RSS and Google Reader | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, in light of Google Reader's death, we discuss why we've been saying for years that RSS is, at best, dying a slow death. We further discuss whether or not it's best to call the police on an agitated, aggressive homeless man, or to let him remain agitated and aggressive on his own. In the news, CISPA's passing the house gave us a nice list of who to never vote for again, baseball coding software couldn't account for a crazy thing that happened in a game, and acetaminophen may affect the brain in ways you didn't realize. Also, Futurama was re-canceled, and GeekNights is going to Australia!

 GeekNights 20130418 - Drugs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about drugs (which means we talk about pseudoephedrine, Dimetapp, LSD, marijuana, alcohol, caffeine, immortality, and transhumanism, in about that order). Heading that up, Daft Punk's new album is eagerly anticipated, and New York is not an amusement park.

GeekNights 20130416 - Games only Scott Likes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, an echo of our previous Games only Rym Likes episode, Scott discuses the games that he alone likes (or else that he feels are surprisingly forgotten). Before that, "always on consoles" and why Adam Orth was so wrong, Luke Crane and Thor Olavsrud's announcement of Torchbearer, and the Castle of Illusion remake. Scott's Games: King's Bounty Descent Shogo Mobile Armor Division (which used the Lithtech engine) MechWarrior 2 Yoshi's Cookie Kung Fu Heroes Little Ninja Brothers Dig Dug 2 Alfred Chicken Dr. Chaos Metal Marines Wario Land 2 Mario Kart Super Circuit Conquest of the Crystal Palace Legacy of the Wizard Faxanadu Dynamite Headdy

 GeekNights 20130410 - MoCCA Fest 2013 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we relate our experience at MoCCa Art Fest 2013. We bought less than usual, there were some changes now that it's under the umbrella of the Society of Illustrators, but it was mostly the same old MoCCa we know and love. In the news, the Internet Rage Machine saw a full and complete cycle around the Saga #12 "banning" from the Apple app store, which raises the related question of why Apple treats apps as second class citizens (to movies and books) when it comes to free speech, curation, and censorship. Rym and Emily saw Up On Poppy Hill - Goro Miyazaki's latest movie - and it is frankly excellent. Also, itchy beards. From MoCCa, check out Pencil Pup, Nurse Nurse, Bunny Mom, Strong Female Protagonist, Khutulun the Wrestler Princess, and some Lemongrab. From GeekNights, check out GeekNights Presents Utena!

GeekNights 20130408 - High Bandwidth Content Distribution | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we consider how video (and other high bandwidth one-way content) is distributed on the Internet, including a brief history of satellite television in North America and how its unresolved issues remain to this day. In the news, FOX threatens to go cable-only if Aereo isn't shut down, different levels of shady are occurring with ISPs and HTML content, and France doesn't understand the Streisand Effect. Rym enjoyed a bomb scare outside his office, Amazon amazingly mis-delivered a package, wallets seem to be the hot thing to Kickstart, and Lawdingo seems like an interesting way to find a lawyer.

GeekNights 20130402 - Ground Floor and some PAX | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tonight on GeekNights, we triumphantly return from PAX East 2013! Or, at least one of us does. Rym was laid low with a serious flu post-PAX from which he is still recovering, and you'll hear his various coughing fits reconstructed for you in glorious mp3 form! We talk a bit about Shovel Knight, Ducktales Remastered, Scott's enjoyment of X-Com now that he's playing it, PAX East, and our extremely disheartening experience with Ground Floor. It feels like it should be a good game, but nonintuitive mechanics in key areas obfuscate its surprisingly light core, and more importantly, it takes far to long to play for what it is.
