The Hour of the Divas: Life Perspectives of Transgendered Women | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:00

"A trans woman (sometimes trans-woman or transwoman) is a transgender person who was assigned male at birth but whose gender identity is that of a woman. The label of transgender woman is not always interchangeable with that of transsexual woman, although the two labels are often used in this way. Transgender is an umbrella term that includes different types of gender variant people (including transsexual people)." from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans_woman The life of a trans woman creates a diva. Or does it? And just what is a "diva"? Let's look at some examples: According to Wikipedia, "Diva can also refer to a woman with a reputation for being temperamental or difficult to please. In show business, having a 'diva attitude' implies someone who is self-important or hard to work with." According to UrbanDictionary.com, "A diva is a female performer, usually an opera singer, who is extremely talented but very imperious and tempermental. But the distinguishing factor is that her talent permits somewhat uncouth behavior. A diva is not necessarily difficult to work with, she is just very professional and and has a low tolerance for incompetence. A diva is NOT just some no-talent pop singer who thinks everyone should acquiesce to her every whim, or even worse, some woman who is necessarily rude, mean, bitchy, and often stupid just because she "knows what she wants" and revels in being high maintenance. These woman do not deserve the title of diva, because they have no redeeming talent or quality. They are simply loud and obnoxious bitches. True divas should be treated with respect for their enormous talent and strong will."  Which one are you?

Child Support Woes: A Panel Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:00

Child support was created as a means for the care and support of children single parents. Many parents have issues with the system, with the absent parent, and even the way society views this plaguing issue. Many may struggle with either paying child support or acting indifferently because they consider it unjustified.  To make matter worst, Section 228 of Title 18, United States Code, makes it illegal for an individual to willfully fail to pay child support in certain circumstances. Accordingly, an individual is subject to federal prosecution if he or she willfully fails to pay child support that has been ordered by a court for a child who lives in another state, or if the payment is past due for longer than 1 year or exceeds the amount of $5,000. A violation of this law is a criminal misdemeanor, and convicted offender face fines and up to 6 months in prison (See 18 U.S.C. § 228 (a) (1)). If, under the same circumstances, the child support payment is overdue for longer than 2 years, or the amount exceeds $10,000, the violation is a criminal felony, and convicted offenders face fines and up to 2 years in prison (See 18 U.S.C.§ 228(a)(3)). Lastly, this statute prohibits individuals obligated to pay child support from crossing state lines or fleeing the country with the intent to avoid paying child support that has either been past due for more than 1 year or exceeds $5,000. (See 18 U.S.C. § 228(a)(2)). Any individual convicted of this crime may face up to 2 years in prison. Notably, other than in the specific circumstances aforementioned, child support enforcement issues are handled by state and local authorities, and not by the federal government. Furthermore, all child support enforcement matters must be addressed at the local or state level before concerns can be raised at the federal level.

To Miguel Reece Returning Vets' Post-Traumatic Sleep Disorders Are the New PTSD | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:03:00

“Sleep deprivation during military deployment is archaic, harmful and institutionally unavoidable. It may aggravate, and even cause, PTSD in veterans returning from combat. Why’s it taking so long for military brass to take action?” – Peter S. Green, journalist Award-winning journalist Peter S. Green investigated sleep deprivation during military deployment and how “circadian scarring” among our troops may aggravate, and even cause, PTSD in veterans returning from combat. Green asks, “Why is it taking so long for military brass to take action?” During today’s show our guest, Miguel Reece, Retired US Air Force Major and former VA civil servant, will address this and other related issues that are adversely affecting our servicemen and servicewomen while on and returning from deployment. A case study: U.S. Army Corporal Sean Bedingfield Through the long summer of 2008, U.S. Army Corporal Sean Bedingfield led a fire team at a dust-choked combat operations post in the craggy terrain of Kunar province in northeastern Afghanistan. His platoon was five men short of its full 32-person complement, and would catch incoming fire several times a day from Taliban insurgents in the surrounding hills. Full-day patrols sent Bedingfield and his squad 3,000 feet or more up into the mountains, and another 3,000 feet back down to their camp. At night, they stood watch to ward off insurgents. Often, they’d double-staff the watchtowers to ensure no one fell asleep. “If one guy dozed, the other’s job was to slap him around to wake him up,” Bedingfield said. The five stages of normal grief that were first proposed by Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross* in her 1969 book On Death and Dying are: denial,  anger,  bargaining,  depression, and  acceptance. They are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost. They are tools to help us frame and identify what we may be feeling. But they are not stops on some linear timeline in grief. Not everyone goes through all of them or in a prescribed order. Our hope is that with these stages comes the knowledge of grief ‘s terrain, making us better equipped to cope with life and loss. At times, people in grief will often report more stages. Just remember your grief is an unique as you are. * Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross earned a place as the best-loved and most-respected authority on the subjects of death and dying. Through her many books, and her years working with terminally ill children, AIDS patients, and the elderly,Dr. Kubler-Ross brought comfort and understanding to millions coping with their own deaths or the death of a loved one. Her books have been translated into 27 languages. She passed away in 2004 at the age of 78. Before her death, she and David Kessler completed work on their second collaboration, On Grief and Grieving.

The Black Lives Matter movement campaigns against what it callspolice brutality in the United States against African-Americans. Several unarmed African Americans who died at the hands of law enforcement have had their deaths protested by the movement, including Tamir Rice, Eric Harris, Walter Scott, and Freddie Gray (whose death sparked the 2015 Baltimore protests).  Jeryl F. Hodge: Passing On Her Message | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

Jeryl F. Hodge is a native of Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands. She grew up in Saint Thomas with her parents and in Tortola with her grandparents and aunts. Jeryl F. Hodge is a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School. She now lives in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She had worked at Vitelco, which is now Innovative Telephone Company, for 38 years. She is best recognized for singing locally in the eleven-o’clock choir at Christ Church Methodist. She is the wife of Irvine Hodge Sr. and a mother of two children, Irvine Jr. and Devin. Jeryl takes a great deal of pride in recognizing the role of her late parents, Esmie and Charles Frazer, during the course of her life. In 2011, Jeryl was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 57 years old. She learned to manage her therapy throughout her life. Jeryl F. Hodge now loves to read, write, and collect information on the early history of the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands. Her interest in the final was to write a book about her family history as it was in her homeland. Jeryl’s book, Save the Pages, is of special value to her for a personal reason. She and her mother had a good relationship when her mother died at age 59. Although Jeryl thought about how much she valued her mother, she wanted to write about their lives. She believes some of the stories might help resolve old conflicts and promote understanding among family members.   Another reason for writing this book is that her mother told her about her experiences growing up in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and was not able to publish them. Jeryl recalled wonderful, often-forgotten experiences and have written them on paper since she retired. Visit Jeryl at: http://www.savethepages.com/
