Hey gang! It’s the holiday season and this week Jack and Andy have been busy making our social rounds and doing all the things. So we’re delving into the vaults for a Classic Naked Diner episode! We’re going all the way back to July of 2016 for a talk we had with the amazing Geek Gal Sarah Hodge Weatherbe. Because it’s mid-December and everybody could use a nice, not political episode to chill out to and take a breather while gearing up for that fight you expect to have with your racist uncle in about a week. Fear not though! Gentle listener. Next Monday we’ll be back with the Friendly Atheist himself, Hemant Mehta, to get you in Xmas eve spirit. Sarah, erstwhile proprietor of Panels by Geek Gal http://www.panelsbygeekgal.com, is a true nerd and hoo-wee did we have a lot of fun getting our geek on. We know we’ve been hitting the serious topics pretty hard lately and I’ve got to say it was really nice to just have a straight-up literary discussion about comic books, urban legends, and geek culture to give us some breathing space before we jump back into politics or religion again (which I assure you we will, I’ve seen our calendar). Besides it’s the holidays, you don’t want a big heavy thinky show, do you? Nah. So we made you this, which we think is just the thing to pair with a hotdog or burger to jumpstart your geeky BBQ conversations about whether Wolverine would beat Batman in a fight or if the Baba Yaga and Krampus summer together in the Mediterranean. Big fun! You can check out Sarah at her site and over at her twitter As always you can find Jack at: https://twitter.com/ledflashing and on Patheos at https://www.patheos.com/blogs/infernal/ And Andy At: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/laughingindisbelief/ or https://twitter.com/laughpurgatory. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "true"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "zxcr-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "From Guests of the Show"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "f8f2941afc01beac7b0a804f20960bae"; amzn_assoc_asins = "1449479677,0982853718,B005FYCGIK,B00TA2IB7I";

Well it’s the day before US Election 2018 and Jack and Andy are going guestless to talk about our pending election, make predictions, rant, elaborate, complain, kvetch, and motivate. Remember, we are two cis white guys; we’ll be fine no matter what happens. But we’re also Atheists, so we’re very concerned. We’ll see you at the polls, gang. Get out there and do your patriotic duty, you can listen to us while you’re standing in line. This week Jack and Andy talk with Dale McGowan about music (not Atheism, not Satan, not Foundation Beyond Belief, not any of that …. MUSIC), because music is Dale’s first love and the subject of his new podcast How Music Does That, which Dale describes as his “favorite parts of teaching” to get people excited about music and musicology. McGowan graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 1986 with a double major B.A. in anthropology and music theory. In 1991 he received an MA in Instrumental Conducting from California State University, Northridge. In 1999 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in music theory and composition. From 1991 to 2006, he was associate professor of music at St. Catherine University, a Catholic women’s college in Minneapolis/St. Paul. His experiences at the college are satirized in his 2002 novel Calling Bernadette’s Bluff and the 2010 sequel Good Thunder. In 2012 he began writing Atheism for Dummies for the popular For Dummies book series. In 2014 McGowan became National Director of Ethical Education at the American Ethical Union and is a former director of engagement at the multi-faith website Patheos. Adam Kotsko is an American writer, theologian, religious scholar, and translator, working chiefly in the field of political theology. He served as an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Shimer College in Chicago, which was absorbed into North Central College in 2017. He is especially known for his interpretative work on Slavoj Žižekand Giorgio Agamben, as well as his writing on American popular culture. Jack and Andy are talking to Adam because of his two most recent books “The Prince of This World” and “Neoliberalism’s Demons“, both published by Stanford University Press. The prior is a discourse on the evolution of the character of Satan in our cultural milieu, and the later a reflection on the political demonization of minority voices in society.
