 Wise Words 35: Sarah Emerson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:22

A few weeks ago we visited with our good friend Sarah Emerson for an Amp’d Interview where she shared with us the What Joy Project.  For this week’s Wise Words, we ask Sarah about the release of her album two years ago and how she determined whether it should be released as a Christian or secular work.  It’s something than many artists question as they consider where their work will have the most impact. We also promised to update you when we had new information on the project launch.  Here’s what we know:  The launch is March 21st , and the launch party will be held at Urban Hardwoods in downtown Seattle – for those of you who live the Northwest or are interested in travel.  Tickets are $35 and go sale February 20th with proceeds given to What Joy Project after costs. By the way, Sarah shared with us the following short note: FrequencyFM, Thank you so much for the support! We are excited to announce the What Joy Project Campaign launches March 21st. First in Seattle, then all over the world via the internet and Social Media. As hundreds and thousands of people give of time, talent, and finance…together we will build a dormitory in Uganda for orphans who need a place to sleep at Destiny Orphanage and Boarding School. Amp’d Interview: Bonnie Gray, Part 2 - Frequency.FM

 Amp’d Interview: Bonnie Gray, Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:37

First things first: thanks to you all for making Part 1 of our interview with Bonnie Gray one of the most popular ever on Frequency.  Of course, it’s no wonder.  Bonnie’s compassion and authenticity are apparent, and her enthusiasm is engaging.  For Part 2, we learn about her recent collaboration with visual artist Dee Kasberger of www.RedLetterWords.com, which quickly transitions into a discussion of current culture and its behavior towards artists. The latter half of this episode (after the music transition) turns personal and focuses on the topics of anxiety and PTSD.  For folks acquainted with Bonnie’s book, Finding Spiritual Whitespace, this won’t be unfamiliar territory and is a key part of the journey.  We hope you stick around to listen to this important piece of the conversation. ## Other Notes: * Bonnie’s pieces with Dee Kasberger can be found here: http://www.redletterwords.com/bonnie-gray/ * If you haven’t joined Bonnie’s book club yet, you’re not too late.  Here’s the link to get you started: http://www.faithbarista.com/bookclub/ * Christa Wells released her Covers EP this week.  It features re-imagined arrangements of five classics songs from the late 80s and early 90s.  At $4.99, it’s a steal.  Oh, and if you stay tuned, there may just very well be a giveaway associated with this one… * This week, Travis Thrasher and Frequency.fm officially launched The Hinterlands Saga with a brand new dedicated site and a podcast.   Visit http://hinterlands.frequency.fm/ to read the latest entries in this blog-a-book experiment and subscribe on iTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/the-hinterlands-saga/id966041141).  And just because we think it’s cool, the promo video follows.  Amp’d Interview: Bonnie Gray, Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:34

Last year, Bonnie Gray came to our attention by way of her excellent memoir-driven book, Finding Spiritual Whitespace.  Our contributor, Mark Newton, loved it and wrote a glowing review.  We followed up shortly thereafter with a two-part written interview.  When offered the chance to catch up with Bonnie, we jumped at it. What started as a quick check-in with the writer behind www.FaithBarista.com became a wide-ranging interview about art, anxiety, and God’s grace.  After 90 minutes of engaging conversation, we find in Bonnie a kindred spirit and an individual with an immense heart for her fellow artists.   We’ll be sharing this in two parts, so listen in next week when part 2 is published. ## Other Notes: * Considering Bonnie’s online book club?  You can get more information here: http://www.faithbarista.com/bookclub/ * Bonnie and Joe reference our interview with Robbie Seay from Episode 27.  The Psalms LP that we discussed was released January 13th.  It’s a must-have album. * Next week (February 10th) we officially kick off our project with Travis Thrasher, The Hinterlands Saga.  This year, Travis is blogging a book, The Howling Wind, and Frequency is producing the narration via a dedicated podcast.  For a sneak peak and to catch up on the entries written thus far, visit http://hinterlands.frequency.fm/.  Amp’d Interview: Skylar Kaylyn | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:30

In the middle of the December, 2014, an email arrived in the Frequency inbox from a young singer/songwriter by the name of Skylar Kaylyn. Before we ever listened to music from her sophomore release, In My Head, she had our interest. Why? Because this precocious 18-year-old is from Wheatland, Wyoming, a small town (pop. 3,652) in the southeastern corner of the state. And it just so happens that Joe is a graduate of Lovell High School in Lovell, Wyoming. No, the towns aren’t really near each other, but Wyoming is Wyoming, and Joe tends to get excited about these things. As it so happens, Skylar is talented and her album is quite good. That always helps. Tune in to the conversation and learn a bit more about our new friend from the Cowboy State and the intriguing way her album came together. By the way, Joe’s audio cut out once or twice during the conversation. Not enough to be a distraction, but in case you’re wondering why he doesn’t complete a thought, it has nothing to do with his mental stability… ## Quick Links for Skylar: * Website: http://skylarkaylyn.com/ * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SkylarKaylyn * Twitter: http://twitter.com/SkylarKaylyn * Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/skylarkaylyn Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

 Wise Words 34: Tim Timmons | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:22

Almost a year ago – to the day – we published Episode 13 of the podcast and featured an interview with worship leader and Essential Worship artist, Tim Timmons.  Tim’s wit and authenticity set him apart from his contemporaries. We hand-picked this excerpt which speaks to the importance of honoring the calling God has set upon on even whilst making a living as an artist. Great thoughts to ponder. Other notes: * Episode 29 was published last week.  Don’t miss Dan’s interview with Juno-nominated artist and producer Drew Brown. * We are kicking off the pilot for Frequency Gallery this week.  If you are a visual artist looking for the opportunity to gain some exposure and experience with an online art gallery, check it out.  We plan to open up for submissions in March for our inaugural show. * If you have minutes to spare, get over to our Wise Words page to listen to more creative insight: https://www.frequency.fm/wisewords/ ## For more information on Tim, visit:: * Website: http://timmonsmusic.com/ * Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/timtimmons * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timmonsmusic Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

The Many Facets of Drew Brown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:55

It’s 2015, and we’re back with another stellar episode of the Frequency podcast.  We’re elated to share with you an interview (conducted by Dan!) with the talented and diverse Drew Brown.  Yes, this Canadian singer-songwriter is a purveyor of his own brand of indie pop infused with folk and electronica.  But he’s not content with just that.  For his latest release,  Analog Love in Digital Times – Part 1, Brown can add to the credits “producer” and provided most of the instrumentation. Dan digs in with Drew to discuss the inspiration for his unique style, why his independence is important, and under what circumstances he would relinquish the reins on producing his own work.   They even spend a few minutes chatting gear – we’ll circle around with Drew again to have a more complete conversation on that topic.  It had both Dan and Joe geeking out. Other notes: * Want us to do a show featuring gear?  Shoot us a note and let us know what you’d like us to cover.  We have some ideas, but we would love your input. * Listen to our latest Amp’d Interview, a great chat with singer/songwriter Sarah Emerson. * Catch up on Howling Wind by Travis Thrasher in advance of the narrated version: http://thehinterlandssaga.blogspot.com/ * We’re getting closer to the time when we unveil the Frequency Gallery.  We start our pilot the week of January 26th.  When it’s ready to roll, we’ll remove the password, and you’ll be able to access it from here: https://www.frequency.fm/frequency-gallery/ * Comments and reviews are always appreciated.  Links to iTunes are provided below. * US: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2; * Canada: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2  ## Quick Links for Drew Brown: Twitter: http://twitter.com/drewbrownmusic Facebook: http://facebook.com/drewbrownmusic Website: http://drewbrownmusic.com/ Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+
