Staci Frenes Gives Voice to the Artist | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:47

It seems that God never ceases to find unexpected and creative ways to introduce us to artists.  Such is the case with our guest today, Staci Frenes.  Staci is probably foremost a singer/songwriter with eight records under her belt whose music you may heard featured in movies and major network shows.  But she’s also a gifted writer who published her first book, Flourish: Cultivate Creativity. Sow Beauty. Live in Color. last year.  It’s a beautiful and inspiring collection of stories and insights that speaks into the hearts of Christian creatives everywhere. Staci recently self-narrated and released the audiobook version of Flourish.  It was through this effort (and an email from our previous guest Shannon Walker) that she came to our attention.  After consuming the book and being thoroughly impressed with the expanse of Staci’s talent and her compassion for artists, Joe sat down with Staci to discuss the impetus behind Flourish and to gain some insight into the challenges behind giving voice to one’s own work. Other notes: * Joe was live at CMS Northwest 2015 during the recording of this episode as evidenced by the noise in the background.  We recorded a ton of interviews, some of which you can currently find unedited on our SoundCloud page.  We’ll be releasing them into the podcast feed as we are able. * We recently discovered that our website host let us down again.  During a recent upgrade, about a dozen episodes were lost.  It took us a little bit to discover the issue and restore the files.  We apologize for the inconvenience and will re-double our efforts to complete our migration to SoundCloud. * Leaving a review on iTunes is one of the best ways to give exposure to the artists we feature on Frequency.  We’d be more than honored if you would hop over there and say something (nice…) * US: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2; * Canada: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2  ## Quick Links for Staci: * Website: http://www.stacifrenes.com/ * Twitter: https://twitter.com/stacifrenes/ * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stacifrenes Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter,

Amp’d Interview: On the Road With Christa Wells | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:02

An episode or two ago, Dan and Joe were chatting about our friend, Christa Wells.  Christa has been on tour with Plumb and has journaled about the experience on her blog.  Dan remarked about how honest and vulnerable the entries were. So we decided to connect with Christa to see if she would spend some time chatting with us about the glamorous life of an indie artist on the road and how touring with a large act is quite a different animal.  She kindly obliged us. Joe caught up with her as she was waiting backstage for soundcheck to start (you can hear Plumb’s sound check occurring in the background).  We think you’ll appreciate Christa’s perspective on the meeting of “real life” and the touring artist’s experience. ## Quick Links for Christa Wells: Website: http://christawellsmusic.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ChristaWellsMusic/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/christawells Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

 Amp’d Interview: Brothers McClurg Redux | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:03

In June of this year, we published a humble, five-minute Amp’d episode that featured Brothers McClurg.  Those of you who’ve been following understand that we shared the only remaining usable audio from an otherwise wonderful conversation.  Well, because God is good and Brothers McClurg are good guys, we managed to connect again in late Summer for a redo interview. Our great friend, Paul Herman from CCLI, offered to allow us to use one of their conference rooms and host this motley group.  We’re proud to say that the resulting interview turned out great.  Tune into this fun conversation about music, heritage, and their recent releases: Home and Around the Mic.  Oh, and just ignore that crunching sound.  It’s only the guys chowing down on M&Ms provided by CCLI. ## Other Notes: * We’ve recently heard rumor that Brothers McClurg will be releasing a holiday-themed album in the coming weeks.  Stay tunes for more news. * In case you missed it and are interested, you can catch the remnants of our first conversation here: https://www.frequency.fm/ampd-interview-brothers-mcclurg/ * Chord charts for both new albums can be found here: http://sprigmusic.com/artists/brothers-mcclurg/chord-charts/ ## Quick Links for Brothers McClurg: Website: brothersmcclurg.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/brothersmcclurg Twitter: https://twitter.com/brothersmcclurg Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

Tim Timmons Learns to Breathe - Frequency.FM

Tim Timmons Learns to Breathe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:39

Tim Timmons is cool.  There.  We said it.  And you’ll probably be saying that too when you’ve finished listening to our interview.  Tim was our guest on Episode 13, and when we heard he was releasing a new LP, Awake Our Souls, we knew we had to catch up with him to talk about it. Tim took time out of his schedule on two different days to speak with us about the record, delving into the meaning behind the songs and offering insight into his personal journey, including how his relationship with Jesus is allowing him to learn how to truly breathe.  Tim’s generosity, enthusiasm, and wisdom are on full display in our conversation.  We expect Episode 35 will be amongst your favorites. Other notes: * No news yet on the airing of Timmons Pantry Raid.  As soon as we hear more about it, we’ll make sure you know right away.  Honestly, we can hardly stand the wait.  We’re dying to watch that episode with Chris August… * Note: This episode features extended Dan and Joe banter.  This is what happens when those two don’t get together to record often enough.  Still, we hope you enjoy it. * In terms of the metrication of the United Kingdom (listen to the episode – you’ll understand), most roads still use the imperial system to represent distances and speed limits; however, newer roadways will often show metric units. * The word “schlub” (again, listen to the episode…), is a Yiddish term – perhaps originating in Poland – that means a talentless, unattractive, or boorish person. * We continue our migration of our episodes to SoundCound.  If you’re in the mood to binge listen, head on over and check out all 100+ episodes: https://soundcloud.com/frequencyfm * Leaving a review on iTunes is one of the best ways to give exposure to the artists we feature on Frequency.  We’d be more than honored if you would hop over there and say something (nice…) * US: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2; * Canada: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2  ## Quick Links for Tim: * Website: http://timmonsmusic.com/ * Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/timtimmons * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timmonsmusic Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

Shut Up and Listen 3: David Leo Schultz | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:47

It’s been a while since we shared a new episode of “Shut Up and Listen” but that is not a reflection on host Jim Gray or his work ethic.  For this latest installment, Jim connects with actor, writer, and director David Leo Schultz.   You may be familiar with David’s directorial work in Ragamuffin, the well-regarded Rich Mullins bio pic from 2014.  He’s currently preparing to roll out a full length feature addressing the life of author and evangelist Brennan Manning.  Jim and David share some laughs as they discuss the film industry, writing, ADD, and what it means to be a Christian navigating the Hollywood landscape.  ## Quick Links for David Leo Schultz: * Website: http://davidleoschultz.com/ * Twitter: https://twitter.com/davidlschultz * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/David-Leo-Schultz/261235440611283 Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+ The Shut Up & Listen Podcast features music by Kevin McCloud, “There It Is”.  More info can be found at  http://incompetech.com/.

Eyes Up with Jason Roy of Building 429 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:22

In our latest Amp’d Interview (#13 if you’re counting), Joe sits down with Building 429 frontman Jason Roy.  We caught a few minutes of Jason’s time as he was enjoying the excitement of interstate travel on a tour bus.  Joe and Jason explore the band’s new album, Unashamed, which is available today (September 25, 2015).  In addition, they chat about Building 429’s involvement with the Kendrick Brothers and their movie, War Room, which songs are good to run to, and what Christian artistic endeavors are currently inspiring him.  Enjoy! Other notes: * When discussing the song “Eyes Up”, Jason references a song that is only available on their Facebook page, “491”.  Here’s a link to the video:  https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152573178572307 * The movie War Room is in theaters now.  Learn more about it here. *  Jason and his wife have been enjoying Jen Hatmaker’s latest book, For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards.  It was published August 16, 2015 by Thomas Nelson. * Leaving a review on iTunes is one of the best ways to give exposure to the artists we feature on Frequency.  We’d be more than honored if you would hop over there and say something (nice…) * US: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2; * Canada: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2  ## Quick Links for Jason and Building 429: * Website: http://building429.com/ * Building 429 Twitter: https://twitter.com/building429 * Jason’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/jasonroy429 * Building 429 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/building429 Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+

Digging In with Elias Dummer of The City Harmonic | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:41

Happy Friday, everyone!  We’re back – just in the time for the weekend, with episode 34.  Our guest is a gentleman who makes up one quarter of the Juno Award winning band, The City Harmonic – none other than Elias Dummer.  He’s the band’s front man, plays piano, and writes many of their songs.  He’s also a native of Hamilton, Ontario, which is one of Dan’s old stomping grounds.   Dan takes the lead on this in-depth interview with Elias touching on the new album, We Are,  the nature of worship, and his heart for Hamilton and uniting churches. Be sure to also check out this release regarding their latest documentary – http://thecityharmonic.com/2015/08/26/tch-release-documentary-about-church-unity-launch-website-to-resource-church/ Other notes: * Quick correction on the release date of We Are.  The actual release date was September 4 – not September 11th as stated by Joe.  But we forgive him, because it was pretty early when he recorded it. * Please also forgive Joe for a slight geographical error (Toronto = Hamilton). Dan tried to make him feel guilty, but Joe is American after all… * As mentioned in the show, we have begun the migration of our episodes to SoundCound.  In the event you want to visit and explore, here’s the link: https://soundcloud.com/frequencyfm * Leaving a review on iTunes is one of the best ways to give exposure to the artists we feature on Frequency.  We’d be more than honored if you would hop over there and say something (nice…) * US: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2; * Canada: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/frequency.fm/id599474294?mt=2  ## Quick Links for The City Harmonic: * Website: http://thecityharmonic.com/ * Twitter: http://twitter.com/thecityharmonic * Facebook: http://facebook.com/thecityharmonic Quick Links for Frequency: * Frequency on Twitter * Frequency on Facebook * Frequency on Google+ * Dan on Twitter, Google+, Facebook * Joe on Twitter, Google+
