Meny Hoffman loves small business and has a passion for helping them succeed.  He is the founder of PTEX Group, creator of the LTB (Lets Talk Business) summit & of course the LaunchPad.   Launchpad is modeled after the Shark Tank where there was a panel of wealthy investors in addition to crowd interaction and polling.  There were three businesses funded on the first go.  I have linked to them below.  STP 028: Corbett Barr – Lifestyle Entrepreneur & Traffic Ubermensch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:37

18 Months, 2 Blogs, 6 Figures - Now Corbett is obsessed with TRAFFIC - yours! Perhaps you have had a time in your life when it feels like the walls are crashing down all around you.  Corbett experienced this after the financial meltdown of 2008.  When his startup essentially folded, he did what we all would probably do.  He jumped in the car with his wife and headed down to Mexico.  Huh?? Corbett's favorite success quote: "Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” -Howard Thurman Corbett had an amazing epiphany while he was in Mexico (not the kind you had during spring break in college) He had a major pivot point and what ensued changed the direction of his life.  You may not be interested in blogging or websites, and that's ok, but Corbett's story can be applied to anyone who feels like they haven't yet figured out how to build their career around their life, instead of the other way around. I dare you not to be inspired by listening to Corbett's story and the successful company he has built around his Think Traffic website.  I have quotes from Corbett tacked to my wall, and my hope is that you will take what you learn in this session and make something happen!  Good Luck out there~ Jump IN!  STP 022: How to Make Money on the Internet Starring Chris Guthrie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:56

Make money on the internet. Sounds pretty simple & straightforward right?  There is a very interesting story behind its inception.  Join me on Shark Tank podcast episode 22 as we chat with Chris Guthrie.  Former competitive gamer (Halo noobs show due respect) turned online enthusiast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwMUawpNJuY The Halo god (Chris Guthrie) doing work in his former life...a must see! (and I like reading the post while MC Hammer plays in the background) "What marketable skills do you already possess that you can capitalize on online?   They are probably worth more as much or more online than to any employer "  Chris Guthrie When I first heard of Chris it was because he was making mega affiliate sales commissions with Amazon's affiliate program.   You probably know people who flip properties right?  Well Chris flips websites.  He looks for sites that are undervalued, purchases them, does rehab (Or improves content & monetization) and then sells them to buyers (in some cases institutional buyers) for big dollars.  Chris also now builds software (note: he doesn't know how to code) to help people do things easier and faster than they could before.  Chris has some great ideas and is sure to get you thinking about new ways of doing things and looking at the big picture.  STP 019: Orig Audio Co-Founder Michael Szymczak | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:21

With hardware like this...Who needs sharks?? Jason Lucash and Mike Szymczak were tired of traveling with bulky speakers, not to mention constantly shopping for batteries.  So what did they do?  Well like any solid entrepreneurs they sought out to create a solution. "To this day we still don't have a business plan...Staying flexible has been a large factor in our success"  Mike S. Jason and Mike found success early and haven't slowed down for a second.  They had 750k in sales the year they visited Shark Tank (2010) and finished 2012 with over 3.6 million in gross sales.  Even better, their audio products are very slick, inexpensively priced, and now fully customizable. In this episode of the Shark Tank Podcast Mike joins me to talk about the origins of Orig Audio and the culture and mindset of this thriving company.  In addition we discuss the breakdown of their deal with Robert Herjavec and their thoughts on how valuable that equity is in light of their explosive growth. "There are a lot of people who sit on the sofa and say, 'I had that idea'  but they don't take any action.  Action is what separates entrepreneurs from regular people." Mike S. The issue of the "patent" being held in China and the exposure level that Orig Audio had at that time. (Huge questions marks on this for me after watching the show) Robert's reasoning (or lack of) for not going forward with the deal. - Interesting stuff Orig Audio has had hockey stick (aka Algore) type growth year over year.  3.6 million gross in 2012. Does Mike think people should pay 15 times more for the "Dr. Big Name" headphones? Dwight Schrute's response when Mike emailed them about "Beets" headphones (crickets) QVC sought out Orig Audio, and its usually the other way around. How Orig Audio stands out in a niche that becomes more crowded each day. Plus a whole lot more... Advice from Mike for entrepreneurs who haven't made it over the hump just yet: Whenever you think or say, "there has to be another way" that could be the next great product waiting to be created.  STP 016: How Steve Gadlin Turned Drawing Cats Into a 6 Figure Business | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:35

Can drawing cats be a 100k+ per year business?  If Steve Gadlin is drawing them it can. Steve Gadlin is an interesting cat, no pun intended.  He wanted to learn more about running a business, but he needed an idea and a product. He chose something simple, something most people love, something he is allergic to = CATS. "Winning Shark Tank has been described like winning the lottery, but it amounts to a lot of work." Steve Steve has a very interesting perspective on the Shark Tank effect.  While admitting that what he has done would be unlikely without the help of the tank, he also knows that without his level of passion and commitment it could not have succeeded regardless.  This interview is quite instructive for fans of the show as well as people who are nervous about their abilities to succeed as business people (as was the case with Steve) Steve gives an honest, realistic, and refreshing look at what it takes to maintain steady growth long after his self-proclaimed "15 minutes of fame" are up.  Plus hes hilarious, which is great. "Mark Cuban is my first investor, so its like trying to compare your 1st girlfriend to your old one...he has been great."  Steve on working with Mark Cuban. GroupOn gave Steve his start (which like Shark Tank, started out as a joke/experiment) Why Steve was far more nervous pitching the producers than the Sharks on his cats. How Steve had planned to dump Kevin using a "Lifeline" from the start. Steve believe he was incredibly lucky, but we know that "Action Creates Luck" Steve talks about how you are told that your show may not air even after jumping through all the hoops.  Robert Herjavec had a great probing objection for Steve and Steve had a great answer (that we didn't see) You have to stand still for 2 minutes before the show starts, which is where they get the B-roll of blank stares to use throughout. What lessons Steve has learned regarding economies of scale and the margins of his business (great for new or potential business owners) How do you ride the Shark Tank Effect Wave and keep it from petering out... Steve hit 12,500 cats while we were speaking...all drawn by him! Steve filmed a shower scene for the intro of Shark Tank - thankfully it wasn't used. Steve knows he isn't business minded, he knows he is the grasshopper and not the ant.  Knowing this is important. Steve compares his cats to the "PET ROCK" Steve talks about the Shark Tank "Snake Oil" Posse...(run Forrest Run!) Plus a whole lot more... Advice from Steve for entrepreneurs who haven't made it over the hump just yet: He started shelling out for a mobile app before defining the need - understand your needs before you throw dollars at them Create good content and you won't have to worry too much about the other pieces Ask LOTS of questions.  Don't be afraid to ASK!  Ask for the things you want if you really want them. If you asked Jason Bond when he started teaching others how to trade...if he could have 2,000 subscribers to his premium service within two years time, he probably would have laughed.  Today if you ask his customers most would say Jason's service is worth far more than they pay for it.  Do you feel that way about anything you spend money on?  Do you have a business where your customers would say this?  Jason explains how he has built this model in Episode 15 of the Shark Tank Podcast.
