 SDCP 052: 2014 Draft Cornucopia | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:14

Draft, draft, and more draft! No, we're not talking beer, and we're not talking military. We're talking NFL, baby, and we've brought in some reinforcements: Eric Edholm, one of our Shutdown Corner draft experts. We discuss all the big names: Jadeveon Clowney, Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Michael Sam, and of course, Tim Tebow. (Relax. It's at the end.) Which teams fared the best in the draft? Which fell apart? Which traded themselves into contention, and which outthought themselves with their personnel moves? We've got your answer right here. We tagged up on almost every single team in the NFL, so there's a good chance we covered yours. (There's also a good chance you'll hate us after you hear what we say about your team, but we'll take that chance.) As always, we appreciate your ears. The closer we get to preseason, the more you're going to hear from us. The Shutdown Corner podcast is the product of Kevin Kaduk, Frank Schwab and Jay Busbee. It's all free, don't cost nothin'. Give it a listen and let us know what you think. See you soon!

 SDCP 051: A Final Four detour | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:45

Sure, there's no football, but that's never stopped us before. In this case, we take a detour away from football entirely, however, and into that sport with the round ball and the baskets. Fully two-thirds of our podcast team hails from the University of Wisconsin, and so it's no secret which team they're pulling for in this weekend's Final Four. We spend time breaking down not just the Final Four, but the very nature of fandom itself: how far should you support your team if you fear they're going to lose? Because this is an NFL podcast, we take a brief diversion into DeSean Jackson, the story of the week, and then start a late topic: best sporting event to attend in person. More on that later. Thanks so much for hanging out with us. Draft coverage coming very soon! The Shutdown Corner podcast is the product of Kevin Kaduk, Frank Schwab and Jay Busbee. It's all free, don't cost nothin'. Give it a listen and let us know what you think.

SDCP 050: On pie, sandwiches, and big-ticket free agents | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:08

Take a breath, everybody. We made it through the first wave of free agency. Think about how much better your team is now than it was a week ago. (Unless your team is the Oakland Raiders, in which case: drink.) We discuss the players who have shifted teams, including DeMarcus Ware, Darren Sproles, and Darrelle Revis. We discuss the teams who have taken steps forward, and those who have taken steps back. And we discuss John Elway, who may be brilliant, insane, or both. And because this is the offseason, we bookend this with talk of pie and disgusting sandwiches on the front end, and Vegas betting on the back end. Enjoy. The Shutdown Corner podcast is the product of Kevin Kaduk, Frank Schwab, and Jay Busbee. It's all free, mostly NFL, and a good source of fiber.

SDCP 049: Free agents are part of a nutritious breakfast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:03

We're only days away from the start of the free agent period, and so this week we're talking speculation about free agents, as well as some fond farewells to necessary cap sacrifices. Adios, Champ Bailey and Devin Hester. We knew ye ... well, we knew ye pretty well, actually, but ye were making way too much money and so ye had to go. Others under discussion: Ben Tate, Jairus Byrd, Michael Vick, and many more.Oh, and we begin with an extended meditation on breakfast cereal, so there's that. The Shutdown Corner podcast is the product of Kevin Kaduk, Frank Schwab and Jay Busbee. It's all free, don't cost nothin'. Give it a listen and let us know what you think. New episodes every week, even during the offseason.

SDCP 048: One Combine Trio to go, please | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:33

Guess who's back? After a short Sochi-related hiatus, your favorite NFL bloggers who have a podcast related to Yahoo's Shutdown Corner are here to get you started on the long, long offseason. Today, after dispensing with some Winter Olympics-related nonsense, it's on to Combine discussion. Frank was at the Combine, and he breaks down the Big Three: Michael Sam, Johnny Manziel, and Jadeveon Clowney. We assess each one's strengths and weaknesses, both on and off the field, and start to project where each might end up. There's also talk of free agency and salary cap, but no Oscar chatter. We'll save that for another time. The Shutdown Corner podcast is the product of Kevin Kaduk, Frank Schwab and Jay Busbee. It's all free, don't cost nothin'. Give it a listen and let us know what you think. New episodes every week, even during the offseason!

SDCP 047: Let ‘em up, Seattle, they’ve had enough | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:42

It's over. It's finally over. Not just that merciless Super Bowl beating, but the entire 2013-14 NFL season. On today's episode, we break down what's left of the game and try to determine whether this is more a credit to Seattle's D or a black mark against Denver's offense. What does this say for the future of both teams? Who should have been the real MVP? Will Frank ever get out of snowbound New York? All this and more in today's podcast! Also, programming note: after today, we'll be taking a short hiatus as Kaduk and Busbee work the Winter Olympics. We'll gear back up again in a couple weeks with draft talk, offseason movement, and plenty of other craziness. Make sure you've subscribed to keep up. We thank you so much for all your attention this season. We delivered hundreds of thousands of podcasts to your ears, and considering we weren't even sure we could get our families to listen, we're tremendously proud and grateful. Forget Richard Sherman; you guys are the best. Cheers and happy offseason till we connect again.

 SDCP 046: Super Bowl Week, Day 5 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:36

And here we go, end of the line for Super Bowl week! The game is almost here! We thank you for putting up with all of this nonsense and craziness all week long. We'll be back after the game for more, but for now, let's put a bow on Super Bowl week with a breakdown of the matchup everyone wants to see: Denver's damn near unstoppable offense versus Seattle's vaunted defense. This is a historic matchup, the best offense of all time against a D that could legitimately put itself in the conversation for greatest ever. How well will Peyton Manning pick apart the Seahawks? How effectively will Richard Sherman and the rest of the Seattle secondary shut down the Broncos receivers? So many angles here, so many possibilities. It's going to be a lot of fun.We close off with our predictions, and we're split: two of us are going for one team, one for the other. None of us think it's going to be a blowout ... indeed, this one could be in doubt into the small numbers in the fourth. We can't wait.

 SDCP 045: Super Bowl Week, Day 4 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:52

It's Thursday, and that means the end is in sight! On today's special 20-minute quick-hitter, we have the first of our two matchup podcasts. How will the Seattle offense fare against the Denver defense? Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and all the rest against Champ Bailey, Pot Roast, and more! What does Seattle have to do on offense to win this game? (Yes, "score more than Denver," but there's more to it than that.) What does Denver's defense have to do to keep the Broncos and Peyton Manning in the game? ("Hold Seattle to less than 75 points" is not quite a viable strategy, but possibly still a winning one.) Anyway, listen in for some last-minute tips as we offer up this half of our Super Bowl game preview. Enjoy, everybody!

 SDCP 044: Super Bowl Week, Day 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:35

Almost halfway there! Today on the podcast, we discuss Snowpocalypse, but not in New Jersey; in Atlanta, where Busbee is located and where there may not ever be another Super Bowl as a result. From there, it's more about Media Day, the spectacle of nonsense and bloviation that we all complain about and yet we all watch. Frank weighs in on his experiences at Media Day, what it's like trying to ask Peyton Manning a question, the sight of Marshawn Lynch waiting out the horde, and so much more. Was Lynch right to keep his mouth shut? Is Pete Carroll the coolest coach in the NFL? We discuss that and much more on this, our latest 20-ish-minute podcast. Thanks so much for listening!

 SDCP 043: Super Bowl Week, Day 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:10

We continue our week of Super Bowl podcasts by setting the stage for Tuesday's Media Day. It's absolute anarchy, folks, with media from all over the globe swarming all over your favorite NFL players. For once, the media is the story, and not in a very good way. You'll see people in gorilla suits and saucy outfits asking questions. Our Frank Schwab is there, and if we had the choice, we'd much rather he be in the gorilla suit. We talk of great Media Day moments of the past, and Frank gives us the rundown on life aboard the S.S. Bronco, or whatever they're calling the cruise ship where Denver is hosting its media availability. (Yes, really.) Throw in some discussion of future Super Bowl sites, and you've got a packed 20-ish minutes. Thanks for hanging!

 SDCP 042: Super Bowl Week, Day 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:10

It’s Super Bowl week! We’re doing our part to stoke the hype with a full week of quick-hit 20-minute episodes covering all aspects of the Super Bowl Week Experience. Our man Frank is on the ground in New York/New Jersey, and he’ll be bringing us all the updates from inside the locker rooms, behind the velvet ropes, and much more. No pressure, Frank. We begin with discussion of the Seahawks’ first media session, specifically Richard Sherman. There’s also talk of Peyton Manning’s retirement; is he going to go out like Elway? And will the weather have an effect on this game? What if they cancelled the game and ran nothing but ads? It’d still do huge ratings, we're guessing. We’ll be here all week, every day, 20 minutes a day. Join us, hang out, and hit us with your topics and questions via our Twitter account at @ShutdownPodcast or jay.busbee@yahoo.com. We'd love to hear from you.

SDCP 041: Richard Sherman says THIS IS THE GREATEST PODCAST EVER | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:07

THIS IS THE GREATEST PODCAST EVER, AND DON'T SEND NO SORRY OTHER PODCASTS OUR WAY. Greetings, friends, and welcome back for another round of the Shutdown Corner Podcast. We're talking Richard Sherman, of course, if only to put the story to bed. We kick around the entire Sherman affair: was he wrong to gloat? Was he wrong to antagonize Crabtree? Were we all wrong for getting so uptight about it?From there, well, we kind of go wandering from topic to topic, from Super Bowl media day to the Pro Bowl. And oh my heavens, you have to hear Frank's OJ Simpson story. Plus, next week we'll be coming at you live every single freakin' day. You're going to love it! See you then, and thanks for listening.

SDCP 040: The best of all possible weekends | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:21

Championship weekend! It's here at last, the moment we've all waited for, and really, absent our own teams, this is the quartet we've all wanted to see. In this ep, we break down New England-Denver and Seattle-San Francisco, focusing on both the major storylines (Manning! Brady! Harbaugh! Carroll! Kaepernick! The 12th Man!) and also lesser-known players who could have a major impact on this weekend's festivities. Interspersed in are the usual digressions into National Anthems, hockey, and whether replacement cornerback is the most terrifying position on the field. As always, you're the best for listening. Enjoy the games. See you next week!
