 GL Audio 76: It's Magic | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 13:58

We're looking forward to the Maker Faire this weekend, where we'll hang out with our kind (nerds, hackers, and gadget geeks) and bring back reports of the most fabulous DIY projects we find there. But in the meantime, we've got some gadget news for you. Google handed out HTC G2 phones (aka the HTC Magic) to all 4,000 attendees of its Google I/O conference this week, and Wired.com was there, so we got first-hand impressions of the new phone. It lacks the G1's keyboard, but that makes it sleeker and slimmer. Plus, it's got the updated Android OS 1.5, aka "Cupcake." We also talk about Microsoft's upcoming Zune HD, which doesn't have an HD screen -- but it does have an HD radio and, with an optional dock connector, the ability to deliver HD video content to your TV or monitor. And finally, we review MSI's impressive x340, a super-slim notebook that matches the MacBook Air feature for feature, and ounce for ounce -- but, at $900, costs half as much. Oh, and it runs Windows Vista instead of OS X.

Chen fills you in on the latest App Store drama, which involves a rejection and a semi-rejection of two iPhone apps.  GL Audio 73: Apple's Chip Off the Old Block | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 14:51

Apple recruits IBM chip guru, Mark Papermaster, to possibly head up a division in Cupertino that will make chipsets in-house. Plus, a British journalist takes a iPhone and a Eee PC on a bumpy ride in a rally car to see which one is easier to type on when you're hurdling 80 MPH through a 90-degree turn on a dirt road. All that plus WIRED's triumph at the ASMEs and a review of the near perfect Samsung NC20.

GL Audio 72: Hard Times For Robots | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 17:48

This week's Gadget Lab podcast kicks off with a discussion of the consumer robotics industry, which is running into some hard times: Ugobe, the company that made the Pleo robot dinosaur, is going out of business. Even iRobot and WowWee have canceled plans for upcoming robot toys, as it appears U.S. consumers just aren't interested in these expensive gizmos. After that, we discuss Stanford University's iPhone development class -- it's available for free through iTunes -- and we review a THX-certified plasma TV from Panasonic, as well as a roundup of four inexpensive 15-inch laptops.

As for product reviews, Danny Dumas gives us the rundown on the Kodak Zx1 budget pocket cam and the Yamaha FZ6R, a motorcycle for beginner riders.

 GL Audio 70: Dongleware | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 14:49

One of the things we're most excited about with iPhone 3.0 is its support for app-accessory combinations, which we've dubbed "dongleware." We asked Wired.com readers to suggest ideas for this new category of products, and they came up with everything from a universal remote adapter to an iPhone breathalyzer. We also discuss the mysterious shortage of Android-powered Google phones -- just one has hit the market so far -- and a beautiful but dumb new phone from Porsche Design.
