From Bitcoin Dreams and a surprisingly sophisticated Twitter bird to a hedge fund boner, we were always fascinated by Richard Turley’s radical cover designs for Bloomberg Businessweek over the past four years. In April 2014, In April 2014, news broke that he was bidding farewell to the magazine’s newsroom and moving on to MTV.When Richard Turley joined the magazine in 2010, his mission was nothing less than to reinvent it. In this video, possibly his last interview as Creative Director of Bloomberg Businessweek, Gestalten.tv captures some of his greatest work and the thinking behind the design of the publication. He talks about how he and his team translate the complex, button-down, data-driven world of business, politics, and economics into an endlessly surprising visual package of bold provocative designs—spurring the imagination and mood of the nation every week. Jonathan Corum, the graphics editor for science at the New York Times, designs print and interactive graphics with a decisive focus on clarity, translating detailed data into something widely understood.Last fall, we hosted a two-day workshop with this true master where we learned more about the fundamentals of information design. In an image-saturated world, British collage artist John Stezaker rather creates more with less. Cutting up yesterday photographs, subtracting pieces, and juxtaposing faces, he transforms found photographs and forgotten postcards into symbolic portraiture of modernism. Stezaker’s artistic interests in examining hidden relations between images have bestowed international success and recognition upon him. We had a precious opportunity to speak with John Stezaker at his exhibition in Berlin’s Capitain Petzel Gallery.Featured in the celebrated group exhibition The Age of Collage, his topical work is now on display at Gestalten Space in Berlin until January 12, 2014. The accompanying book “The Age of Collage: Contemporary Collage in Modern Art,” takes an even more insightful behind-the-scenes look at those working with this interdisciplinary and cross-media approach.

Gestalten's new book "I am Dandy" by photographer Rose Callahan and writer Nathaniel “Natty” Adams was recently launched at the bespoke gentleman's tailor Gieves & Hawkes, No. 1 Savile Row London. The book documents the well-kept lives of 57 protagonists of contemporary dandyism with a keen, yet empathic eye. Gestalten.tv flew to Brighton, London, and New York to meet with Natty and Rose as well as a few of these extraordinary characters to learn all about their styles, attitudes and philosophies, and discover how dandyism today is a rebellious attitude and obsessive calling that can be cultivated on any budget.
