Beginning Jazz Guitar: Improvising | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:32

Now its time to use all 3 arpeggios that we have learned. Use the jam track to help you hear the II V I progressions and listen to the improvisation examples to hear ways of applying arpeggios.  Beginning Jazz Guitar: Dominant 7th Arpeggio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4:39

Applying Dominant 7th Arpeggio to II V I will follow the same process as the Minor 7th Arpeggio. In this instance also try playing both the Minor 7th and the Dominant 7th arpeggio and then follow that with scale improvisation on the I chord. You can of course mix this up by going in and out of scale and arpeggios on each chord to make interesting sounding melodies.  Beginning Jazz Guitar: Major 7th Arpeggio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:27

Like the aforementioned arpeggios there are 3 common ways to play the Major 7th arpeggios on the fretboard. Again I would concentrate on only one way and only one set of strings until you feel you know each shape. Then move that shape across each string set. Take advantage of your knowledge of the Major Triad because all Major 7th arpeggios have a Major Triad as the 3 bottom notes. Apply the C Major 7th arpeggio to the C major chord jam track to learn to improvise with the new sound. The attached PDF will give you all the Major 7th chord arpeggios on all string sets.  Beginning Jazz Guitar: Mixolydian Scales | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5:46

When applying a Mixolydian scale to a II V I keep in mind that you would only think the Mixolydian scale if in fact the V chord was being played long enough so that you heard the V chord as the key center. Although I've set up a jam track that does make the V chord a key center it usually takes a few measures before the ear settles into the V as a key center. Again I mostly want you to realize that you cant learn music without using your ear, and knowing what key center you are hearing in will make you a much more musical person. You should learn your Mixolydian scale in all keys because II V Is can be found in all keys when playing jazz. The PDF will g I've you the fingerings for the Mixolydian scale.  Beginning Jazz Guitar: Cycle Five | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:30

Using the cycle 5 method to learn the barre chords will help you memorize the chords but will also help your fingers gain strength and dexterity. We cant cover every single chord you need to know as a guitarist so I recommend "Chord Workbook for Guitar" Volume One and Two to learn all the commonly used chords in jazz. These books also contain chord progressions so you can apply the chords you are learning. This is a key element in memorizing and understanding how each chord works within a chord progression.
