All About Windows Phone Insight Podcast

In AAWP Insight #127, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we have further discussion around the Lumia Denim update. Topics covered include availability (and the complexity of variants), a camera comparison with earlier software on the Lumia 930/Icon, and more. We also cover a Snapdragon 810 press release, updates for the Tweetium app, some thoughts on wearables and smart home apps, plus a Table Tennis game recommendation.

In AAWP Insight #126, hosted by Steve and Rafe, the focus is on the arrival of the Lumia Denim (on some high-end devices) and the linked Lumia Camera 5. We discuss the details, work-flow, and (hidden) cost of Rich Capture, when you might want to use 4K moments, and the much improved start-up and shot-to-shot performance. We also cover Microsoft's Q4 financial results (including Lumia device unit volumes) and a number of recent app updates.

In AAWP Insight #125, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we review yesterday's Windows 10 event, with a Windows Phone focus. Topics covered include changes to the Start screen, updates for Action Centre and text input, increased commonality with desktop and tablet Windows, and a run down of the major new "Universal" apps. To finish we highlight some notable app updates and releases for current Windows Phone devices (Dropbox, Spotify, Twitter, and Skype).

In AAWP Insight #124, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we open with a quick look ahead to the much anticipated Windows 10 announcement, before rounding up some Denim updates news. In the middle section of the podcast, we talk about Steve's review of the Yezz Billy 4.7 (good hardware, but with software concerns). We finish by discussing the price of, and the hardware in, Microsoft's two newly announced low end phones: the Lumia 532 and the Lumia 435.

In AAWP Insight #123, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we open with some thoughts on the non-arrival of Lumia Denim and Lumia Camera 5, before going to to talk about a few CES highlights, including the Yezz Billy 5S. Other topics covered in the podcast include the latest AdDuplex stats, the acquisition of MixRadio by LINE, and gold editions of the Lumia 830 and 930. We finish by chatting about our review of the low-end Lumia 535.

In AAWP Insight #122, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we spend the first half of the podcast talking about a number of new app and games releases (Gestures Beta, Candy Crush Saga), as well as some updates to some of our favourite apps (Glance, OneDrive, Netflix). In the middle of the show, we talk about the pricing and positioning of the rumoured Lumia 435. We finish by continuing last week's discussion around imaging and the Samsung Note 4 (compared to various Lumia devices) in the context of Nokia's previous imaging "supremacy".

In AAWP Insight #120, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with a discussion on the latest low-end entrant to the Windows Phone market - the Iris Win 1 from Lava Mobile. Complementing last week's discussion of the "best" high-end Windows Phone device, we debate which device should take the crown for the "best" low end Windows Phone device. We finish with some commentary on the leaked "Lumia 1030" device, which leads to a discussion on the direction of the next generation imaging flagship.

In AAWP Insight #119, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with some commentary on clicking Qi wireless charging pads, before moving to discuss a number of recent and upcoming app updates (Lumia Camera, Photosynth, and more). In the second half of the podcast, we discuss the merits of various Windows Phone devices released in 2014 (and late 2013), with a focus on higher-end phones such as the Lumia 1520, 930, 830, HTC One M8, and Samsung ATIV SE.

In AAWP Insight #118, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we open with news of the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview update (Battery Saver updates) and recent additions to the (UK) Cortana command set. We move on to talk through a number of app roundups, releases and updates, featuring Movie Creator, Wolfram Alpha, Riptide GP2 and more. In the last part of the podcast, we briefly go off topic to discuss Nokia's return to hardware, before Rafe talks Toilet Twinning and reveals a novel app promotion strategy.

In AAWP Insight #117, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with a discussion of a lookalike Lumia 1020, before thinking about Windows Phone Twitter clients. We also cover a number of minor news stories from the Official CBS news app to the withdrawal of Nokia Reading and updates for Podcast Lounge. The main topic of the podcast is the Microsoft Lumia 525, the new entry level Windows Phone device, which was announced this week.

Apologies for the break in your normal run of podcasts with Rafe, but the chance arose to sit down with Damian Dinning, ex-Nokia and its head of imaging for years, the guy (with his team, of course) behind classics like the Nokia N73, N90, N93, N95, N82, N86, N8, 808 PureView and, of course, the Lumia 1020. The chat was in a quietish pub and is hopefully very listenable - the content is about 60% Windows Phone-related, 30% Symbian-related and 10% generic, but there's plenty here of interest to all readers/listeners, I think.

In AAWP Insight #115, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with a quick return to the topic that we closed last week's podcast with, that of Microsoft cross-platform services and why you might choose Windows Phone. We also cover the retirement on the Nokia brand from smartphone, updates to the OneDrive and Xbox Video apps, and the latest mapping data and app updates from HERE. There's also a quick mention for the newly announced Microsoft Health and related Microsoft Band wearable accessory.

In AAWP Insight #114, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with a quick mention of our policy in terms of how much of the new unified 'Windows' wolrd we'll be covering (summary: just phones and related), plus we move on to new Windows Phone 'name' Bush, now selling an entry level smartphone through UK retailer Argos. This week's app coverage includes Skype and Tubecast Pro. We also revisit the Lumia 830, and discuss whether it can be a "sidegrade" to Lumia 1020/925/920 owners. In the last portion of the podcast, in response to a listener question, Rafe shares some thoughts on Windows Phone differentiation.

In AAWP Insight #113, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start with a quick mention of new Windows Phone manufacturer Highscreen, before detailing the latest update to Glance, one of our favourite apps. We also cover the launch of Skype Qik, the return of Colour Pop to Creative Studio, and new app Live Tile Clock. The second half of the podcast is all about the Lumia 735 and Lumia 830, a pair of mid tier mavens that look set to give the Lumia device portfolio a significant boost.
