This week on the show we kick off a new occasional part-work series of shows in which we aim to introduce listeners to the exciting new world of personal computing. This week's topics include computer safety, jazz computing, computer romance, programming yourself and computing in German.

Prompted on the one hand by the inclusion of an owl-themed track on the new Spacedog album and on the other by a seagull-themed track on Jonny Trunk's recently released collection of music and songs used in Fingerbobs, we thought it an appropriate moment to celebrate all things avian by making birds the theme of this week's show. This is part of our ongoing exploration of the animal kingdom. If you have a particular favourite branch of the evolutionary tree or if there is a genus or species you are particularly keen on, do let us know and we will do our best to make it the subject of a future show.

This is a reminder that The Corporation's annual presentation will be taking place very shortly. Please assemble in the Company Theatre (managers in the Grand Circle, everyone else in the stalls) where our Board of Directors will present this year's original stage musical outlining the ups and downs of the last 12 months and how we can all do better this year. There will also be a hilarious reference to Brian in marketing around the 34 minute mark. Chiefly inspired by the remarkable discovery of a whole album's worth of punk covers played on the steel drum(!), we decided it was time to dust off the ripped tartan trousers and attach chains of safety pins to our lab coats as we turn the whole show over to punk rock. Please rest assured, dear regular listener, that this is the Alternative History version of punk rock where one can quite happily use the music as a backdrop to the enjoyment of creamy stilton and several glasses of fortified wine.

This week we pay tribute to one of the giants of space age bachelor pad music, Russ Garcia. Garcia had a very illustrious career as an arranger and orchestrator but he is probably best loved for his 1959 album Fantastica which was one of the first space-themed lounge records. After gorging ourselves on some great music throughout 2011 we thought it seasonally appropriate to collect together some of the tracks which didn't make it into some of the shows last year but which are nevertheless great pieces of music.

Festive lunar greetings to all our listeners for this week's all-Christmas special! On this week's show we bring you a selection of well-known Christmas favourites played in some very unusual ways. We have a version of the Twelve Days of Christmas where partridges and gold rings are entirely absent and a version of Last Christmas which may cause you to rethink the oeuvre of Wham. We also have a rather lovely original Christmas song from Sean O'Hagan of the High Llamas.

The release of the rather lovely new album by Japanese duo Lullatone (Soundtracks for Everyday Adventures) prompted us to seek out a selection of tracks either made with or inspired by toy instruments, clockwork machines and circuit bent toys. By a spooky coincidence another brand new release also fits into this week's show rather well, that being an album by Felix Thorn who builds his own instruments using wooden piano mechanisms, springs, and solenoids to create what MC Zirconium describes as "Victorian Drum and Bass".

As you will know, dear listener, the Moonbase periodically detaches itself from its lunar moorings and hovers over various parts of Scotland. We therefore thought it was about time we played a selection of tracks inspired in some way by that great country.The seed of this idea was the purchase of a CD from a charity shop which has a most extraordinary title. A title which in fact prompts many questions to be posed in one's mind. All will become clear as you listen to this week's show.

Loyal listener Squig is to thank for suggesting this week’s theme which explores yodelling, whistling, beat-boxing, throat singing and many other novel uses of the human voice. Somehow, dear listener, one of the themes we've neglected to cover until now is that of our dwelling place, yes - The Moon! To redress this embarrassing imbalance, the show this week is pure unadulterated moonliness, featuring the sounds of, amongst others, Siingapore pop, Argentinian retro-futurism, German pianism, French novelty singing and Norwegian chiptune.

Something of a musical miscellany on the show this week with more Lollywood from the latest release on Finders Keepers (Life is Dance), more from those fictitious French librarians, The Kramford Look and more from those Argentinian retro-futurists Modular. We also mark the sad passing of Paul Leka and Edmundo Ros and hear the sound of an IBM 7090.
