Further exploration on the Octajo, Gold Tone's new octave mandolin banjo.
I am leaving Ireland on the weekend after spending 7 weeks on the island. Best tune I could think of for the occasion. Thanks to JanetB for the inspiration.
Played on a fretless Squared Eel Model P banjo-uke, with 30, 50, 40 & 30 lb fishline for strings, and a 2-liter soft drink bottle heat-shrunk for the banjo head. I think the top nut may be too high.
Raleigh & Spenser
Trust and Obey
BHO Bud Richard Needham (aka: Denton) requested an MP3 of this tune... so, here she be.
Triplet madness with the first of these two tunes. A bit untidy but in support of the two tabs I've posted here. Recorded on laptop mic directly onto RealBand backing track.
Noodling in the kitchen with a friend on guitar with this great Finnish classic. Presented "warts'n'all". Great fun to play, usually 'til your picks fly off. Recorded on my phone on the table.
My attempt at Jens Kruger's "The Three Laughing Monks". It's nowhere near the speed he plays it at, but you have to start somewhere, right?
My banjo transcription of this great tune by Olov Johansson. Found it on YouTube, but now recorded by Swedish band Väsen. Excuse the strange backing track... not easy to program the unusual timing into RealBand. In support of the tab posted here on the Hangout.
A break I came up with, and a Chet Atkins-style drone at the beginning.
Man of Constant Sorrow (Guitar)
This is my "coming out" recording, as my first upload. In support of the tab I posted, it's my transcription of Django's guitar part to banjo. 1st two rounds are Djangos notes, then a couple of rounds of me trying to be gypsyish, then Django again. Recorded through laptop mic onto a Realband backing track.
