Here's another one of my originals played with my band, Hound Dog Hill. This one is played in A and resembles the old fiddle tune chinquipin (not chinquipin hunting) I learned in part from Mary Z. Cox. Basically I reversed the note sequence in the first two bars and added lyrics. Love to hear/read your feedback.
Original Gourd Banjo Tune written by Cutch Tuttle and recorded by Hound Dog Hill c 2014.
For the old-time Tune of the Week, 11/7/14, I'm learning that Cuffy is the name of several historic figures in the era of slavery. I'm impressed there's even a Guyana silver dollar coin with Cuffy's image. The timing of the tune feels unusual, but the only crooked part would be a half measure between the A and B parts. It's the melody itself that has an interesting path. Check out this week's TOTW: http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/294064
Learned from a Dock Boggs recording, Danville Girl uses the tuning f#DGAD. Played here by Bob Lanham on a Gold Tone White Ladye, old-time 3-finger style.
