Comic Book Page Podcast show

Comic Book Page Podcast

Summary: The Comic Book Page family of podcasts are hosted by John Mayo, a comic book fan who has been reading comics for decades. John buys and reads an average of three or four dozen new comics every week. Every Monday is the Weekly Comics Spotlight with reviews of a current comic by DC, a current comics by Marvel, and a current comic by some other publisher. Once a month are the two Mayo Report episodes. One covers the top 300 comic book sales through Diamond Comics Distribution and the other covers the top trades, hardcovers and other collected editions. Each month the Previews Spotlight goes over the hightlights of the Diamond Previews and Marvel Previews. On occasional, a Back Issue Spotlight will be released covering a comic book story arc from years past. Round Table Discussions on a comic book related topic or recent convention are done on a sporadic basis.

 Top Comics 2006 RetCon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:36

Diamond released a revised list of the Top Comics list for 2006 this past week. I haven't seen any mention of it on any of the comic book news sites so I figured I'd discuss it myself. There is some math discussed in this podcast but no numbers were hurt in the process. Not even imaginary ones... I'll be doing a 2006 year in review episode soon. This episode just discusses the revisions to the top comics list and how they were discovered.

What Did John Get This Week? 2007-01-31 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:02

This episode contains not only a quick run down of what I got this week but also gives a quick run down of the other podcasts I've recorded recently.

 Spoilers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 90:36

Once again Irsquo;ve decided to release an episode that has some actual content in ithellip; Don't worry, I'm sure this won't be a trend... This time around the guests are Sean Whalen and Jim Segulin of the excellent Raging Bullets podcast. If you are a DC fan and you aren't listening to Raging Bullets, you really ought to be. I met Sean and Jim at CGS 200 and both of them are smart and funny guys that are a joy to listen to and a lot of fun to talk with. The topic is spoilers. Sean, Jim and I go from A to Z and spoil every title out there. If you want to know who did it, how and why, this is the podcast for you. Just kidding... The discussion is actually just about what spoilers are and how they can be used and misused. But, since you can't really discuss spoilers in general without discussing a few spoilers specifically, this episodes does contain some spoilers on things like who Supernova is. At one point, Jim flat out states who Supernova is. And a few other things are spoiled as well. So you have been warned. I want to thank both Sean and Jim for contributing to this episode. They provided really interesting view points and I appreciated that they were willing to take some time they could have spent recording another ten hour episode of Raging Bullets to participate in this episode. And, seriously, there are specific spoilers in this episode. You have been warned...

What Did John Get This Week? 2007-01-24 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:02

Another shipment, another two dozen or so titles to talk about...

 52: Supernova Revealed | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 117:58

I've decided to finally release an episode that has some actual content in it... So, of course, I figured that I should have someone else on the episode to provide that content... One of the bug mysteries of 52 has been who is Supernova. in issue #37 they finally reveal it. (Okay, actually, they reveal it on the cover first.) And, who better to discuss this with than the resident expert on 52 from the Comic Geek Speak forums and 52 episodes but David D. Not only was David kind enough to join me for this discussion but he made the great suggestion that I ask Ping33 (also from the Comic Geek Speak forums) for an audio comment with his views on the reveal. And Ping33 provided some great comments which David and I use as as starting point for our discussion. In this discussion, David and I both make comments about the television show Heroes. I don't think that we spoil anything but I figured it was worth mentioning in the show notes anyway... I want to thank both David D and Ping33 for conributing to this episode...

What Did John Get This Week? 2007-01-17 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:32

Another shipment, another run down of what I think of the titles prior to reading these issues. And, don't worry, there is a lot more to this podcast then just listening to what I get each week. It just takes a little while to pull those things together...

What Did John Get This Week? 2007-01-10 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:56

This week I not only list of what I got this week but why it took so long to get it. I also give a few thoughts on the various titles so you can get any idea what I think of each of how each of them have been doing up until now. And, in addition to my usually weekly shipment from DCBS, I got two other packages filled with comics. I had some computer problems while recording this episode but I think it came out okay.

What Did John Get This Week? 2007-01-03 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:59

Here is the first in what may (or may not) become a weekly feature: What Did John Get This Week? In it, I list off what came in my DCBS shipment for comics released on 2007-01-03. And, if you donrsquo;t know what DCBS is, donrsquo;t worry. I explain what it is and why I get my comics from there.

 Episode #0 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:29

This introductory episode covers who I am and why Irsquo;m starting up my own podcast. And I reserve the right to do the following episodes at a later (or earlier date): Episode #-1 Episode #frac12; Episode #alpha; (Alpha) Episode #Omega; (Omega) Episode #infin; (Infinity) And any others that come to mind... I figure if the comic book publishers can do it, so can I...
