One could have a lot of fun with this tune, which allows for some creative interpretation of a freight train.
My version of Pete Steele's classic banjo tune in eCGCD...
Kindly recorded after a dance to help me learn the tune
It's said that fiddler James Bryan may have passed this tune along, but I can't say for sure. The other, perhaps older title is Gwine Down the Valley.
This old Celtic tune was recorded and tabbed by Art Rosenbaum in the 1970's based on banjo player Bob Lucas' rendition. As Tune of the Week, it's an interesting research project. Played in sawmill tuning, it might be a most enjoyable listen once familiar with it. Here I play rather slowly and am just trying to reproduce its many notes. The first half is based on a flutists' mp3. The second half is from Art's tab.
Prairie Girl
Written in 1922, this upbeat tune had six parts notated for fiddle and I play three here.
An old Scottish reel of the 1700's, sounding just right for a contra dance!
An contemporary (1970's) Ohio tune named for a town there. I thought it pretty to slow it down at times.
From the fiddling of Earl White and played on a Gold Tone cello banjo, this rag reminds me a bit of Ragtime Annie. It's alternate or original title is actually Pleasurehouse Rag.
based on David Braggers version
Played in G on a circa 1930's walnutSlingerland Maybell pot with a new 5 string walnut neck.
A great discovery tune this week to learn from the recordings of Kentucky fiddler Buddy Thomas!
