This is one of my favorite waltzes. From the play and movie "South Pacific" and written after James Michner's iconic WW2 book "Tales of the South Pacific", the melody perfectly captures the feel of a love affair.

Walking in the Parlor--gourd banjo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

After recording with a fretted banjo I tried my small scale fretless gourd, too. I find getting all the notes challenging and think of the fiddle's challenge with a very short scale compared to a banjo.

A Tune of the Week version from listening to several great players--Joe and Creed Birchfield, Franklin George, and Lester McCumber.

Martha Campbell from Clifftop 2012 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Martha Campbell is a tune from the repertoire of Doc Roberts (1897-1978), a Kentucky fiddler who was one of the first to make records in the mid-1920s. This recording comes from my Clifftop jam with Don Couchie and Tim Rowell. Don is fiddling, Tim is playing clawhammer style in double C, capoed on 2. I am three finger picking in open D on my semi-fretless Tubaphone.

Sourwood Mountain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Some tunes just grab me, as simple as it is I play it often..sometimes slow sometimes hard driving. This version I learned from John Burkes, that someone put up for download. Can't say my playing of it is very close to the tab now.

I Was Born Under A Wanderin' Star | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Neat tune that someone asked about on BHO......which spurred me to figure it out. The very best thing about this tune, however, is that it was sung in the movie ("Paint Your Wagon") by Lee Marvin: a gentleman normally known more for his drinking than for his singing. In that spirit, I drank several beers in his memory before sitting down to record this. Played out of open G tuning on my Vega Whyte Laydie. ~Pete
