On day one of the 2010 GeoDesign Summit, Ola Ahlqvist discusses massive multiplayer online gaming (MMOG) technology and how it is finding its way into education and training environments.
On day one of the 2010 GeoDesign Summit, Christina von Haaren discusses how improved public participation can lead to more environmentally-informed decision making.

This short film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada in 1967 and describes the development of the Canada Geographic Information System (CGIS). Dr. Roger Tomlinson, then director of CGIS, commissioned the film as a way to communicate information about the project to the government, who was funding CGIS development.
At the 1997 Esri User Conference, Jack Dangermond honored landscape architect Ian McHarg, author of Design with Nature, with the president’s award. In this video of McHarg’s acceptance speech, he reminisces with typical humor about his seminal discoveries of overlays and chronology, the challenges of environmental planning, and the role that GIS can play.
Esri president Jack Dangermond spoke at TED2010 about GeoDesign, a concept which enables architects, urban planners, and others to harness the power of GIS to design with nature and geography in mind. Video courtesy TED.
Where you live: It impacts your health as much as diet and genes do, but it's not part of your medical records. In this video from TEDMED 2009, Bill Davenhall shows how overlooked government geo-data (from local heart-attack rates to toxic dumpsite info) can mesh with mobile GPS apps to keep doctors in the loop. Call it "Geomedicine."
In this excerpt from the 1967 film “Data for Decision,” Dr. Roger Tomlinson explains how computers were being used to solve geographic problems in Canada. In a second clip from the 2010 Esri Senior Executive Seminar, Dr. Tomlinson looks back at 40-plus years of geospatial innovation.

Jack Dangermond gives his welcome remarks and recognizes the work of the user community, including Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award winners.
Award is given to the government of Abu Dhabi for their Spatial Data Infrastructure initiative. The award is accepted by His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Secretary-General Executive Council, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi is building a society based on sustainability principles. GIS helps them to make effective and practical decisions and supports their work in local government, utility networks, health, social and educational institutions, public safety, and biodiversity.
Jack Dangermond recognizes the work of the United Nations. He then discusses how geography is opening the world to everyone. He talks about the birth of computational geography and the need for everyone to be connected. Forces are converging, such as the establishment of the internet as a platform for a new generation of geo-applications and the explosion of mobile devices. These forces create a collective geographic understanding. GIS users are more collaborative and serving citizens better.
