The need for enterprise-level strategic planning to incorporate GIS into existing business systems is becoming increasingly important. This session will outline the fundamentals and considerations in developing a technology strategy as a foundation for building business solutions using ArcGIS technology.

We’ll define Esri's enterprise strategy at ArcGIS 10 with a focus on understanding the business value, the architecture, and support for emerging technologies like the cloud. This will be a deeper dive into how ArcGIS 10 enables scalable, collaborative GIS.

ArcGIS offers several options for building Web applications. You can start by using one of the ready-to-use Web applications and adding your data on top of a basemap in the ArcGIS.com Web map or ArcGIS Explorer. If you need more control over the look and feel and functionality of your Web application, choose the configurable Web map built with Flex. In this session, you will learn more about the types of Web applications you can build with ArcGIS.

Knowledge of Python is vital for ArcGIS professionals interested in furthering their automation and analysis skills. Python allows users to create custom data management or analysis tools ranging from single functions to complex multifunction processes with validation, which can be easily reused, shared, and even executed with little to no user interaction. This workshop will introduce the Python scripting language and show how it can be used to access and automate geoprocessing tools and functionality.

This session will focus on best practices for working with CAD data in ArcGIS. Topics will include georeferencing CAD feature classes in ArcMap, using geoprocessing tools to import CAD datasets to the Geodatabase, and exporting Geodatabase feature classes to CAD drawings. This session will also cover ESRI’s Mapping Specification for CAD and the ArcGIS for AutoCAD plug-in application.

Imagery and raster data comes from various formats and services. This session teaches you how to use ArcGIS to integrate imagery and raster data into your projects. The properties of raster data including pyramids, compression, color map, resampling, as well as best method to use them will be covered. The session will also introduce the new Image Analysis window and the new mosaic dataset, which together provide a streamlined environment for managing, enhancing, and processing imagery.

This session introduces the basic principles of map design to those with no formal cartographic training. Learn how to create maps with meaningful symbology that is easily deciphered and quickly captures the eye. The session will stress the communication channel between the map designer and the map reader, andwhat you should and shouldn’t do in map design for both paper and digital media. Some cartography issues will be discussed, but the main objective is to teach you how to create better maps.

In this session, you will learn tips and tricks for creating maps that are optimized in terms of design and performance for online use. You will also learn guidelines and procedures for (1) organizing and referencing data, (2) presenting and symbolizing information clearly, and (3) optimizing the drawing performance of ArcMap documents. All these will be discussed in reference to optimization for online uses.

ArcGIS offers a multitude of tools for creating and maintaining your GIS data. Most editing tools can be used to manually create and modify database features, while others are used to transform and assemble entire datasets. This session will provide useful tips and tricks and time-saving techniques for working with editing tools, constructing vector geometry, editing coincident features, and adjusting data.

If you are new to ArcGIS, or GIS in general, we will demonstrate and teach five fundamental GIS tasks: (1) how to build a geodatabase, (2) creating and using a map in ArcMap, (3) data editing and compilation with the ArcMap editor, (4) managing datasets and metadata in ArcCatalog, and (5) using geoprocessing to automate tasks and perform analysis.

During this session you will be introduced to our ArcGIS for iPhone, how to create maps using arcgis.com that leverage the potential of the ready to deploy iPhone application and introduce the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for building custom iPhone applications.

Using the ArcGIS for iPhone API, you can extend the reach of your GIS to include Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The ArcGIS for iPhone API can access data from ArcGIS Online or from your enterprise servers and allows developers to implement custom ArcGIS functionality in iPhone applications. During this session, you will learn how to develop compelling iPhone applications that incorporate GIS functionality.
