 Management and Hand-off of the Post-ACS Patient on Anti-Platelet Therapy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:24:16

Acute coronary syndromes comprise a family of diagnoses which account for over one million separate hospitalizations annually across the United States. Physicians practicing cardiovascular medicine have numerous choices to make in the care of the ASC patient, with respect to choice and timing of various pharmacotherapies, as well as management strategies. More choices still await as the patient makes their way through the hospitalization, and often across several hand-offs in care. This interview will discuss anti-platelet therapies specifically, but anti-thrombotic regimens in a broader sense, specifically as they relate to the evidence-based, with a focus on minimization, or ideally, elimination in treatment gaps.

Individualized Management for T2DM in Clinical Practice | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:13:16

The emergence of the 2012 ADA/EASD Patient-centered Care Position Statement and subsequent AACE comprehensive guidance for the management of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) has led many to suggest that diabetes care is now not only more complex for the physician but equally confusing for the patient. Nonetheless, adherence to these evidence-based, patient-centered tenets of care for T2DM can improve patient outcomes. Join us as Drs. Brian McDonough and Vivian Fonseca discuss glycemic goals based on individual patients' needs and the pathophysiology-matched treatment options that help achieve those goals.

Short Bowel Syndrome: Optimizing Patient Outcomes through Advances in Intestinal Rehabilitation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:46

Short bowel syndrome, or SBS, is a multi-systemic disorder owing to the loss of a significant amount of small bowel, thus resulting in a severe loss of the absorptive capacity of the small intestine. SBS is characterized by the inability to maintain protein-energy, fluid, electrolyte or micronutrient balance on a conventionally accepted, normal diet. This interview will discuss the pathophysiologic changes associated with SBS and the dietary manipulation techniques to achieve the best physiologic and quality of life outcomes for these patients. Also discussed will be parenteral and enteral nutrition as a component of intestinal rehabilitation and long-term follow-up as well as medical and pharmacologic therapy, and surgical interventions.
