In the conclusion of the Lost two-part series opener, after escaping the "Monster" Jack, Kate and Charlie make it back to the beach with the transceiver and a group of the Oceanic Flight 815 survivors, led by Sayid and Kate, travel to higher ground with it so they can transmit a signal. However, what they discover is the last thing they thought they'd encounter on this isolated Island -  a mysterious transmission. Meanwhile, back at camp, Jack tends to a wounded man who reveals a secret about one of their fellow survivors. During a routine trip from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California, Oceanic Flight 815 is blown off course, hits massive turbulence, breaks apart and crashes on a deserted Island. Convinced that rescue is coming soon, the survivors set up camp on a beach and try to make the most of what they think will be a short time on the Island. One of 48 survivors, Dr. Jack Shepherd suggests they find the transceiver from the front section of the plane so they can radio for help.
