The Flophouse Sessions 99 – Audrey Ryan | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Audrey does more for Boston music than just about any other musician out there. She came in with James Borchers and showed us what she’s got. Song List: * Make Dead * Nostalgia * Get Down and Die * People * No Difference * Holden

The Flophouse Sessions 98 – The Fanged Robot | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Robbie Catholic, AKA The Fanged Robot, really knows his way around a guitar.  He’s playing as part of These United States this Tuesday at PA’s Lounge. Be sure to buy whatever solo CDs he might have – this is why. Song List: * Sunday Song (Paleo cover) * El Chupacabra * The Shape I’m In * Kickin’ Knee High * Electricity in the Mountains * 100 Creatures

The Flophouse Sessions 97 – Aberdeen City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Every once in a while, we have a band in that makes me want to greatly expand my limited knowledge of recording and mixing. Aberdeen City is just that kind of band. I tried some new techniques out, and dammit, I think it worked out well. It always helps when you have an awesome bunch of songs to start with. They play tonight at the Middle East! Song List: * Whose Blood is It? * Thousands and Thousands * Pretty Pet * Mercy

Band in Boston 65 – Everything’s Coming Up Milhouse | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

No realy meaning to the title this week. Just been a good few days. So it was that or mention this godforsaken weather. Yeah, let’s not do that. Featuring The Self Righteous Brothers, Albumen, Murder by Death, The Spanish Armada, New Radiant Storm King, These United States, The Duke Spirit, and Hymns.

Band in Boston 64 – Kidney Beans | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Ever wonder why we’ve been a bit sporadic with the shows lately? Now you get to find out why! Lots of great tunes this week. Featuring Blitzen Trapper, Fleet Foxes, Glorytellers, Girls Guns and Glory, Teenage Prayers, Wussy, Faces on Film, The Beau Roland Band, Tulsa, Antiques, Gunfight, Tracy Morrow and the Magi Chippie, Beach House, Howlin’ Rain, and Papercuts.

The Flophouse Sessions 96 – Jupiter One | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Angly, funky, eminently danceable. From NYC, Jupiter One is one of those bands that I’m surprised I haven’t gotten sick of hearing everywhere. I suppose that’s a good thing. Give it time. And just to further blow your mind, lead singer/guitarist K actually sings while playing a violin on the first track. Listen to it and tell me how that’s even possible. They are playing at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square this Saturday – you know, the former House of Blues. And it’s only two bucks! Song List: * Turn Up the Radio * Countdown * Unglued * Strange Teacher * Arlington Vice * Come On * Fire Away

The Flophouse Sessions 95 – Guillermo Sexo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I was having camera problems that day. I actually got it straightened out and ended up with some perfectly clear photos. But really, this is much more interesting – and I think it better represents the swirly, layered sound of Guillermo Sexo. Dig it. They’re at the Middle East this Sunday! Song List: * Put Your Make Up Make it Shine * Settle Down (a Flophouse exclusive!) * WBC * Crossboni * We’re Not Going Under * Magic Lanterns * Like a Plague

The Flophouse Sessions 94 – Gondoliers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Two guys that manage to make more noise with an acoustic guitar and a mini drumkit than your average nuclear test. But look past the bombast and you’ll hear that it is a precision-guided bombing campaign. Scalpel-sharp beats and breaks combined with a guitar style that somehow sounds like 3 playing at once makes for a strange trip indeedily. They’re having a Love-In at PA’s Lounge on Friday and Sunday, March 14th! (Ignore what we said about the 16th – we were way off.) Song List: * Hear the Horns Take Us Hunting * Rodeo * Untitled * Doug and Dan * Untitled * Quel Dommage * High Horse

The Flophouse Sessions 93 – Township | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Township comes back to lay down some brand new tunes, both from their album that you can buy at their CD release party this Friday at TT’s, and some that are even newer than that. This also marks our debut on thephoenix.tv! We’ve teamed up with the Boston Phoenix to start putting some of these things out in an eye-friendly format. So go and watch a song or two over there, and listen to the whole thing right here where it’s warm and safe. Song list: Jen was too busy having fun to write down the song names. But there’s Winter Song, Sandy, and a bunch of others.

Band in Boston 63 – Keep it in the Family | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

There are a lot of great shows this week, but the one we’re spastically happy about is the CD release party for the Family Township. I know, you’re shocked. Featuring Mean Creek, Via Audio, Evangelicals, Headlights, This Car Up, Township (well duh), Age Rings, Band Marino, The Life Adventure, Foreign Born, Salt and Samovar, Windy Smiles, Cherryaxe, Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned, and Hot Ron Scorcher.

The Flophouse Sessions 92 – Mean Creek | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Mean Creek was a side project of Chris and Aurora from Age Rings, but has grown to be a force to be reckoned with in its own right. Here they are from over a year ago when these songs were just peeking out from the soil. They play with The Dead Trees at O’Brien’s this Wednesday. Song List: * Hands Behind our Heads * Momentary * Around the Bend * To Never Again * Money Makes Me Sad

The Flophouse Sessions 91 – The Motion Sick | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

These guys remind me a bit of Sprites or Of Montreal – quirky tongue-in-cheek songs about love lost and the Konami Code. They’re headlining Church this Wednesday. This session was recorded back when we were in our infancy – the mini mini drumkit was in full effect and we only had a 5 channel mixing board. So cut us a break on the mix, and enjoy the tunes! Song List: * Satellite * Pre-existing Condition * Thirty Lives * God Hates Kansas * The Day After * Grace Kelly

The Flophouse Sessions 90 – The Dead Trees | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Dead Trees rose from the ashes of Furvis about a year ago. Since then, they’ve toured with Albert Hammond Jr from the Strokes and moved to Oregon. They’re back in town this Wednesday at O’Brien’s, so show them some true hometown love, and rock your face off in the process. Song List: * I Have, I Want * Shelter * Killer in Me * Fell Down on the Train * I Kinda Need It * Have Fun (by The Secret Bush) Pretend you were there by looking at the Dead Trees Flickr photo set while you listen!

The Flophouse Sessions 89 – The Lights Out | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The Lights Out finish up their residency at The Abbey Lounge this Tuesday – go pack that joint! Song list: * Last Hurrah * Stormy in Love * Miss Fortune * Make Me * Money or Time

Band in Boston 62 – Back in the Saddle | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We’re back with some great bands to check out this week! Featuring Cherryaxe, Hundred Years War, Streight Angular, Beasts of England, Noel Vickery, Abolition Band, Tulsa, Pepi Ginsberg, Magic Magic, Bear Hands, Abigail Warchild, Bottle Up and Go, and The Octagon.
