D. has worked with children and adults with HIV/AIDS in Brooklyn and the Bronx, developed the mental health program for a syringe exchange in Manhattan, taught and supervised graduate students, and worked extensively with individuals and couples in the LGBT community.   In addressing problems with alcohol and drug use, he utilizes a harm reduction approach to help the individual to comprehend the unique meanings and purposes of drinking or using drugs, as well as its costs and benefits, so that patterns of use can be explored and changed.
