Montreal Weekend Playlist

This week, Theo's back to discuss some Halloween-related childhood memories and his trip to Vegas, while the rest of the crew bring happy tidings of food and music festivals - what more do you need on this candy-filled holiday?

It's a lovely autumn day for the Midnight Poutine ladies to take over, live from Amie's kitchen (although we do apologize for the quality of this here recording). We are two gentlemen short, but we make up for it with a jam-packed show filled with power-pop, cheeky punk and all sorts of pre-Halloween goodies. This week, it's all treat and no trick for you lucky listeners.

This week, as we are trying to adapt to this weird transition weather, we try to cope with a healthy dose of lo-fi punk, mixed in with some quieter, more experimental stuff, and maybe something that resembles information on a mysterious loft show.

The Montreal Autumn is officially here. It's time to wear thick sweaters, carve jack-o-lanterns, dodge falling leaves, and drink pumpkin flavoured lattes with this guy. It's also the perfect time of year for taking shelter inside a cozy concert venue and hearing some live music. Whether you're into storytelling folk/jazz or sweaty lo-fi pop, this week's podcast will help you find what you're looking for.

That's right folks, the Midnight Poutine podcast crew is back after a whole week of post-POP R&R, energized and ready to go. There's a few more great festivals coming our way towards November, but in the meantime we're as committed as ever to bringing you the best of this week's musical offerings, to help you transition right into Autumn.

It's the final day of Pop Montreal, but with the number of great shows and events happening before sunrise on Monday, there's no reason to be sad yet. From a Pop Brunch to a Bounce show, everyone can get their final fix. On this podcast, Theo rejoins Amie and Greg to talk about song picks from Sunday as well as festival highlights from the first two days.

It's the fourth day of Pop Montreal and the festival is only getting bigger, better and crazier. Whether you're looking for a sweaty rock show, a dance party, a BBQ, or a place to relax, we've got you covered. Can you hear the oncoming storm? Pop Montreal is about to kick into high gear and it's only Wednesday. As you probably heard in our first preview podcast, Pop is wasting no time unleashing some of its best acts and latest-running shows. Here is the third instalment of our series, with songs from Friday, when the number of shows per night just about doubles and we see what Pop is really about.

Are you ready for more??!! Pop Montreal is going all weekend and so are we - bringing you five podcasts, constant Twitter coverage, and lots of other goodies. With all the incredible artists in town, we've more or less decided to forego sleep until Sunday night. This podcast will provide a taste of the soundtrack for those sleepless nights - or at least for Thursday. For the others, you gotta come back again.

Wow. The Fall air is just sweeping into Montreal and Pop is already upon us. That means it's time for a little annual Midnight Poutine tradition: a series of Pop preview podcasts, one for each day of the festival. Are we completely insane? We probably are, considering we normally manage to churn out one of these per week, but the mind boggling number of excellent artists playing at Pop necessitates all the extra coverage. Even after five podcasts we will have only covered a small selection of all the artists playing at this mega-festival.

The great Pop storm of 2012 is nearly upon us, but that doesn't mean the Montreal music scene is shutting itself up inside. This week brings everything from atmospheric folk to wintery prog to a punk show in a church. If we didn't know any better, we'd say there was already a festival underway.

Festival mania is upon us again, with our great plans for Pop Montreal and some wild things happening in the streets of the Latin Quarter during OUMF. Also on the docket this week, a couple of album launch shows, epic prog tracks, and some soul-warming bluegrass.

While we're busy mourning the death of summer (or pretty darn close to it) and we try so very hard to remain pop-timistic, the local music scene seems almost quieter than usual. Is it because so many great fall festivals are on the way, and we're just taking a breather before the madness begins? Either way, there's still great music being played all over town, so catch a show or two and enjoy what's left of summer.

We're back again to fight against the waning of Summer with zeal and pop-timism. There are a lot of excellent folky artists coming to town this week, from Polaris longlister Bry Webb to Secret Cities, but waiting in the wings are some loud, stomping acts like Bruce Peninsula and Hand Cream. All is good in the hood. If we sound a little different this week, it's because we're using Amie's portable recorder instead of Theo's proper studio. Just hang in there and we'll be back in full fidelity audio soon.
