Back after 10 days off, a bumper Rant Cast looks back on Manchester United’s Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford, the miserable defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League, and the Reds’ victory over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup. It has been a mixed couple of weeks: the high of David Moyes’ first European victory and the huge low of City’s victory at the Etihad. Also on this week’s show: we take your questions, talk about Wayne Rooney’s rennaisance and have a spectacular competition.

 #161 – Belfast Boy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast we look back on Manchester United’s victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend. It took a set piece and a penalty to secure the three points against the south Londoners, but that was enough to bring David Moyes his first ever win at Old Trafford. But the real talking points from the game came with the late substitute appearances of Adnan Januzaj and Marouanne Fellaini. The Belgian teenager impressed, while Fellaini already adds substance to United’s engine room. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a new contract at Real Madrid, ending the hope that the Portuguese winger will ever return to Old Trafford. We take your questions and celebrate the 50th anniversary of George Best’s United debut. Finally, we look ahead to games against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League.

 #160 – Summertime Blues | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s special Rant Cast we look back on the window that was. The ups and mainly downs of Manchester United’s attempts to sign a midfielder before the transfer window closed last Monday. Could it get any more calamitous, and just who is to blame for the embarrassing turn of events at Old Trafford? Despite the farcical scenes United did capture Marouanne Fellaini, the Belgian signing for £27.5 million in cold, hard, cash. How will the midfielder change United’s approach this season? Also on the show: we look back on defeat to Liverpool at Anfield – a poor show all round from David Moyes’ boys. We take your questions, and look ahead to the Reds’ upcoming fixture with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

 #159 – Blind Faith | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast regulars Ed and Paul look back on Manchester United’s scoreless draw with José Mournho’s Chelsea at Old Trafford. What does the lack of ambition on both sides say about the season ahead? We talk Wayne Rooney – the Scouser is set to stay at United for the coming year, but his performance against the west Londoners wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Still, with United supporters cheering the wantaway striker, how will the 27-year-old react in the season to come? Also on this week’s pod: transfers with the window slaming shut on 2 September, David Moyes’ new banner and United’s visit to Anfield at the weekend. There’s no Luis Suarez, but are Liverpool on the up this year?

 #158 – Available on the Cheap | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast regulars Ed and Paul look back on Manchester United’s victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. The Reds picked up David Moyes’ first Premier League win, scoring three ‘worldies’ on the way, although there were times when the result was more flattering than the performance. Two goals from Danny Welbeck puts the young England international in good stead for the season ahead. Can the much discussed player improve on his meagre goals tally from last season? We talk Wayne Rooney – the player made his comeback against Swansea, creating two goals but looking well below acceptable fitness. Meanwhile, United put in a low bid for Everton pair Marouanne Fellaini and Leighton Baines. The bid was rejected by the Merseyside outfit who claimed to be “insulted” by the “derisory” bid. Finally, we look ahead to Monday night’s game against Chelsea. Will Rooney play against his prospective empoyers?!

 #157 – The Big Kick Off | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

Ed and Paul look back on Manchester United’s victory over Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield. In a muted atmosphere United beat the Championship side with a double from Robin van Persie, but what does victory say about the Reds’ preparation for the new season? Also on the show this week: we talk about Wayne Rooney, with United apparently taking a hard line on the situation and categorically ruling out a transfer to Chelsea this summer. Then again, United said much the same about Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham. Will Rooney stay and what are the consequences for United and the club’s rivals this season? We also look back on Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial, the international break and some promising performances from United’s youngsters. Finally, we look forward to the week ahead – United face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in a tough opening weekend of the Premier League.

#156 – Back in Black (and Blue and Red) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

Welcome back to Rant Cast. After a long summer break your favourite Manchester United podcast returns with a full review of the summer – United’s inactivity in the transfer market, Wayne Rooney’s shenanigans and the pre-season tour to Asia. It has been one of the most dramatic summers in the club’s long history, with Sir Alex Ferguson stepping down in April to be replaced by David Moyes. Yet the new manager has encountered significant frustration, with a series of seemingly failed bids for central midfielders. But have Moyes and the new United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward been culpable in an embarrassing set of market gaffes? On the theme of Old Trafford’s bean counters the squad flew more than 25,000 miles touring Asia and Australia. It hasn’t been a wholly successful tour on the pitch, although three young players stood out. With preview the season, including some predictions for the campaign ahead. Finally, we look forward to Sunday’s Community Shield match with Championship side Wigan Athletic at Wembley.

 #155 – End of Season Party | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

Rant Cast returns in time for the new season in August.

 #154 – From Pyongyang, with Love | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On the penultimate Rant Cast of the season regulars Ed & Paul discuss an emotional day at Old Trafford, with Sir Alex Ferguson saying goodbye to the home crowd for the final time. In an orchestrated farewell of North Korean proportions, the Theatre of Dreams saw its worst nightmare come true, with Ferguson leaving the club after 1500 games in charge. Also on the show this week – we look back on United’s performance against Swansea City, with Rio Ferdinand grabbing a late winner in Fergie’s final home game, and a fantastic club parade through Manchester. We look forward to a future under David Moyes, and say goodbye to David Beckham and Paul Scholes. We take you Twitter questions, give away a fabulous t-shirt, and look forward to the final game of the season against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthornes.

 #153 – All Things Must Pass | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s extended Rant Cast regular presenters Ed & Paul look back on 27 years of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford – the man, the manager, and his legacy. What kind of club will Ferguson leave behind, and how should fans assess Ferguson’s quarter century in charge? In a dramatic week for the club, Sir Alex steps aside with David Moyes appointed the new manager on a six year contract. Does the Everton manager have what it takes to lead United to ever greater glory or will the step up prove too much? Also on the show this week: we look back on United’s defeat to Chelsea at Old Trafford and preview the weekend match with Swansea City. It is sure to be an emotional occasion. Finally, we give away a Ferguson book in our new competition.

 #152 – N-Bombs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast presenters Ed & Paul review Manchester United’s laboured draw with Arsenal at the Emirates. Just how hungover was Sir Alex Ferguson’s side; and how bad Arsene Wenger’s to not take advantage? The Reds gave up on a potential Premier League points record, but secured a creditable draw in north London. Also on this week’s show: we talk race rows, yet again, with the PFA hanging comedian Reginald D Hunter out to dry after the the American dropped (several) N-bombs at the annual awards ceremony. Individual gongs were handed out to Tottenham Hotspurs’ Gareth Bale, although United secured four players in the Team of the Year. We take your questions, talk about the Champions League semi-finals, take in some transfer rumours and preview United’s fixture with Rafa Benitez’ Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday!

#151 – The One with Title Winning Bite | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Premier League winning Rant Cast Ed & Paul celebrate Manchester United’s spectacular title triumph. It was the 20th time United has been crowned ‘Champions of England’ – the 13th title for Sir Alex Ferguson, and of course, Sir Ryan of Giggs. The celebrations continued long into the night… but that was just your Rant Cast hosts. Also on this week’s packed show we talk about Luis Suarez once again, as the Liverpool forward takes a bite out of Branislav Ivanovich. The 10 game ban that followed the Uruguayan’s antics at Stamford Bridge will give Liverpool’s embittered supporters something to new complain about. Meanwhile, we take your questions, do a bit of singing and look forward to Robin van Persie’s guard of honour at the Emirates next weekend!

 #150 – Horse 0-1 Man | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast Ed and Paul look back on Manchester United’s victory over Stoke City at the Britannia, and a hard-earned draw with West Ham United in east London. The Reds take two more steps towards the title even if the team’s performances have tailed off. We talk horses as a Newcastle United fan takes on our equine brethren at fisticuffs. But who came out on top in the battle of man vs. burger? Finally, we look forward to United’s home fixture with Aston Villa on Monday night – a game in which United could potentially seal the Premier League title.

#149 – Fall and Rise of the Blues | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast Ed and Paul look back on all the derby action, with Manchester City taking the spoils after yet another sub-par United performance. Can Sir Alex Ferguson drag his side out of the recent funk, or will United’s double-header against Stoke City and West Ham United bring the Blues back into the title race? It might have been a good week for the Blues over at the Eastlands, but perhaps not those on Downing Street after Margaret Thatcher died. What was the former Prime Minister’s football legacy? Finally, we look ahead to the coming week’s matches at the Britannia and Upton Park, and take your questions.

 #148 – Carlos Le Taxi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

On this week’s Rant Cast presenters Ed & Paul look back on another mixed week for Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side narrowly beat Sunderland in the Premier League to maintain a 15 point Premier League lead. But in the FA Cup, Fergie’s side went crashing out after defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The manager seemingly prioritised the league, but was he right to do so? Also on this week’s show – we talk Carlos Tevez. The Argentinian striker was given 250 hours community service for driving without a license. Will he be cleaning out your bins this week? And we look forward to the Manchester derby on Monday night. Will the party begin at Old Trafford?
