The RaiderCast show

The RaiderCast

Summary: From Sports Illustrated: There are few fans like those in Oakland and few sports shows like this one, which provides fans' pregame reports from the McAfee Coliseum parking lot. There's heavy-metal music and the all-around mayhem you'd expect from folks who attend games in body armor.

According to Jarrett Bell of USA Today, the Raiders aren’t reducing pay or putting employees on furlough. The Raiders have gone down to Georgia, with the goal not of stealing souls but getting in shape for football, whenever it returns. According to Jerry McDonald and Ben Beitzel of InsideBayArea.com, 34 players showed up for workouts in Duluth, organized by quarterback Jason Campbell and defensive lineman Richard Seymour. As many NFL observers assume that the long-suffering Lions will finally become an elite team as soon as 2011, a franchise that has won three Super Bowls and been to another during Detroit’s long streak of mediocrity, and worse, is being overlooked when it comes to spotting the potential up-and-comers for the next football season. The Raiders hired Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson as a defensive backfield coach Monday, bringing to three the number of those who wore silver and black in the past decade and are now on the coaching staff. Despite an intention by the NFLPA to challenge 2011 franchise tenders applied by NFL teams from February 10 through February 24, nothing stops a player from accepting the offer. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team has re-signed defensive tackle John Henderson to a two-year, $8 million contract. The Oakland Raiders have re-signed veteran running back and special teams standout Rock Cartwright. Cartwright joined the Raiders as a free agent in April 2010. NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora has the details: Routt will get $31 million over three years, with $20 million in the first two years. At first, this looks like another wacky Raiders contract. But Routt had an underrated season in 2010, ranking among the league leaders in completion percentage allowed and yards-per-attempt allowed. Robert Gallery will not return to the Oakland Raiders in 2011 because of what he calls a “mutual agreement” — and what the team calls an example of a player overestimating his worth.
