KritzKast #217: Ponies, Rainbows and Wolfs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:13

This week we are joined by the very joyful Ace from Wolfsgorawr. He fits in perfectly with our crazy ensemble  He’s a great person to talk about the new cvar “cl_first_person_uses_world_model” That allows you to view your world model in first person. Officially made for the Oculas Rift, this option has been given to us to at least pretend that we have that sweet piece of hardware. We also talk about how certain plugins my become obsolete due to valve restricting how you connect to secure servers with the use of “-insecure”. Makes no sense? listen in for it all to be revealed. This week also revealed how people can get their hands on one of the reddit hats. Actually, your chance to get one has already passed. You needed to participate in the reddit April fools event. But if you did you can now redeem it by going to This Link. Their methods have caused a bit of confusion and to a certain degree, anger. But we were guilty of that when we released the Lo-Fi right? A Public Service Announcement comes next in the form of a date for Steampipe’s release. April 30th is the day it will be unleashed on the world. Make sure you have the space on your computer and if your a server admin, make sure you mark that date in your calendar to update all of your servers. After that we talk about the ESEA season 13 finals between High Rollers Gaming and Classic Mixup. As always, it was an intense match with crazy moves being played all over the place. Check out the VOD and see for yourself. Or maybe you’d like to enter a 1v1 soldier Ladder. No? What if i told you the prize was a Fully working Arcade Machine? Suddenly its more appealing. Check out MWEB’s Page for all the details. Lastly we have our player of the week. RedXM. He created a Fantastic Add on That changed your Healing beam’s floating plus’ with Kritzkast Logos. We Love it. If you check it out, we’re sure you’ll love it too.

KritzKast #216: Playing with our Toys | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:59:44

Some people were wondering why there was no update this week. We here at kritzkast don’t wonder such things. For we know that Valve are currently on their Hawaii Holiday. So no need to worry about the lack of bug fixes. However, that doesn’t mean there is nothing to talk about. Last Sunday was the Finals of the Ready Steady Pan tournament II. Agro and Ruskey were lucky enough to cast the finals and use far more pan based puns as humanly possible. If you want to watch the PANdemonium that was the finals, click on this link and you can relive it as if you were there. Going on at the same time was the Tip of the Hats event. Trying to raise money for one step camp, the event featured 2 days of 12 hour TF2 live streaming with various different events and personalities from TF2. The list is too long to mention here, but you can recap on everything that happened here. We couldn’t have a show this week with out talking about all the toys. Yes thats right, more of the NECA series of action figures have started to pop-up for pre-order. However NECA have made no announcement about these figures…or the July release date that seems to be attached to them all. If you can’t wait til July, Then why not head over to the TF2 and get yourself a Plushie Balloonicorn. This beckons the question…isn’t it actually a plushicorn? If that isn’t enough, The fans have also been hard at work making toys for us. If you head over to Psychobob Arts Shapeways shop, you’ll see he has created a fully upgradeable Sentry gun. As awesome as it looks, is it legal? Over in the prop world, we have been treated to a collection of great looking TF2 replica weapons by HVD Props. They are planning on creating at least 1 weapon for each class. To follow their progress head over to their facebook page Though it’s too late to vote, you can still see someone from Valve’s staff in a kilt.

 KritzKast #215: Lecture Valley Fools | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:37

Yes, of course it was April Fool’s day last week. Valve’s chance to make fun of us by feeding us misinformation. This time round they teamed up with Reddit to declare that reddit had taken ownership of TF2. The official Wiki played along with multiple updates that just weren’t true, including koth_egmill, the Easter Bundle and a wonderful animation for the Pit-Boy. ETF2L got in on the fun too. Claiming the beloved eSports celeb, TivQ was a hacker. There were some red faces when it was revealed to be a hoax later on. There’s a bit of a cross over with the real and fake when it comes down to the proper update. Reddit hats, the Conspiracy Cap and the Public Accessor have been added to the game, though no news on how to actually get them yet. In addition there was a secret Easter egg on the April 1st blog post. Clicking the full stop at the end of the post takes you to The Teufort Reader and series of Adverts for Lecture Valley and Mann Co. products. Included in this may-be-fake-may-be-real line up are a medieval teleporter, Dispenser costumes and lots of nutmeg. Good news for VR fans, the HUD on the Occulus Rift we talked about in eps.213 week has been updated, along with new input parameters for Razer’s Hydra controller. It’s been a long enough wait but Poker Night at the Inventory 2 is finally available as pre-order. That means new TF2 items and luckily enough we have the creator of those items in our hosts list. We grill Ruskeydoo about the  Bloodhound, Dapper Disguise, Necronomicrown, Samson Skewer and the Long Fall Loafers. He didn’t make the loafers, but four out of five aint bad. There’s manic gameplay on the eSports front too. Starting with a Ready Steady Pan Semi-Final. Ruskeydoo and Agro casted this match between itsallgood and Goon Partchers. We did such a good job they’re letting us cast the final next week too. Agro joined Khalesi and Commedian to cast the final round of the Round Robin‘s 7th EU Mentoring Tournament. Finally, there’s and epic competition ahead in the 5th  Community Vs Pros. 9 communities are represented to fight against the pro team of AG.

 KritzKast #214: Paid to Play | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:49:16

A small update sees shiny new medals for the Ready Steady Pan Tournament – season 2 added. The restrictions for the Tomb Raider promotional items are removed. Mann’s Mint and After Eight paints are available through the Mann Co. Store. Lets not forget the adjustments made to the TF2 beta in readiness for the now fabled SteamPipe update. In ‘the future’s brighter’ news, there’s to be a new TF2 comic coming in a month or two, sadly not to be linked to a major update. Despite what you may have heard Valve’s secret meetings at GDC were simply an inelaborate troll. A Pomona College senior writing an Economics & Psychology thesis is paying for people to play on his server then answer a 10min survey. Sounds brilliant but the reality is that the most you can expect to get it $2 for your time and chances are you don’t qualify anyway. You’ve got to be a pure free to play user with no experience of buying or trading and 10hours of TF2 on your account. That rules me out, and pretty much everyone I’ve ever met. The Round Robin are looking for casters for their seventh season. Everyone is welcome to give it a try. It may be daunting to think of yourself in that role but if you’re willing to give it a try they’re more than happy to help you fulfil that dream.

 KritzKast #213: Into the Rift | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:40

This week’s update was all about the Oculus Rift as Team Fortress 2 is the first game to officially offer support for it. The Oculus Rift a Visual peripheral still in development that is placed upon the head. It fills your full field of vision with a 3D view of the game you are playing. It looks like an extremely immersive piece of technology, which valve have picked up on and are trying to promote. To help with this cause valve have added an in game Oculus Rift Headset for your characters to wear. The only way to get this item however is to have been a donator to their kickstarter before it closed or to purchase the developers kit. Due to the price of the dev kit at the moment, don’t expect to see a lot of people running around with this hat on just yet. However we think this is a great direction for games to be heading in and are glad that valve and TF2 are at the front of these developments. The update also features the usual bugs that only 2 people noticed and a change to the upgrade to premium item. Now it looks like a copy of the game. We also have a bit of Public Service announcement for everybody. TF2outpost.com have a phishing mirror site at TF2outpost.net. Do not be fooled by how similar the site looks, it is in fact a way for phishers to steal your login details for steam. so be very careful when logging in. Remember, if in doubt, use steam guard. Steam also updated and added a few features to the game hubs. Now you should be able to upload artwork you may have made for any game on steam. Team Fortress 2′s Artwork page has exploded in a flood of artwork from past and present. We also have something that we believe to be a promo in the making. Head over to Thekeyparty.com and see who’s keys are currently in the bowl. Not making any sense? We believe that this is the hype machine for Poker night at the inventory 2. We also believe, looking at the recent promotional items from last weeks episode, that they correspond with some of the characters possibly in the game. Only time will tell if we are right.

 KritzKast #212: Strange Bacon Grease | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:59:56

Yum yum. Strange Bacon Grease isn’t just the title of this week’s show, it’s also one of the items released into the game. With it your run-of-the-mill pan can be made into a strange pan to record the score of your panging pan kills. This, along with the Mann Co. Painting Set is one of the possible drops from  the three new crates just added, #50, #56 and #57. If you purchased Valve’s soundtrack CD, Portal 2: Songs to Test By then it’s time to break the seal and look inside the case. That code will earn you an Ap-Sap. If you bought the songs over any of the e-stores, you’re SOL. The good news is that you can still buy it and retroactively claim the device which will talk to you in Wheatley’s psychotically depressed voice. Just what you’ve always wanted. While the indie title Don’t Starve! is still in pre-release it’s possible to get your hands of a Ham Shank (teehee) and your head on a Wilson Weave. In related news several new hats and items have been added but not yet identified. Some say they are to become part of a promo pack for Poker Night and the Inventory 2. A game yet to be announced. Ruskeydoo may have some inside knowledge but he’s not saying. Actually he mysteriously disappears to make a nice cup of tea around about the time we started to talk about it. Funny that. Still, we have some news from our own BubbleBobbler that the Dapper Disguise will be facial distorted when the spy speaks his lines. Now I want to see it too. Two more things on the updates, I think we’ve figured out what sb_filter_incompatible_versions does and the TF2 beta has been brought up to date so they can run further tests on the Steampipe update… whenever that will be. If you’ve been following the hardware news you may be under the impression that Xi3′s new Piston box is a steam box. Apparently Valve don’t think it is. Xi3 unsurprisingly dispute this.

 Kritzkast #211: Incompatible Versions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:32

Tomb Raider has given us much over the years, from discussions of exactly how many polygons it takes to fill out Lara Croft’s model to hours of gameplay action (mostly watching Lara’s butt as she maims rare and exotic animals). Now it’s in our TF2 with three items for our pleasure. Croft’s Crest, the Fortune Hunter and the Tomb Wrapper. Included in this update are recipes for the Sticky Jumper and Rocket Jumper. A new convar makes it to the game, sb_filter_incompatible_versions. Not knowing what it does has never stopped us so we making something up, though we probably got it horribly wrong. The TF2 Beta game gets an update too, allowing you to test your server configs for the upcoming pipeline release. HVDprops squeeze out some real life Ambassador guns, put them on sale then pull them from the store. Are they too good to be true or have they just realised that you can’t pump out TF2 content without awakening the Kraken Valve Lawyers. Are 25secs of your eyeball time really too much time to give up in exchange for a free server? Some guys at Reddit and SPUF think so. They’ve joined hands in creating a petition to have Valve block Pinion ads from appearing on servers. Lastly the ETF2L Highlander Season 4 is live! Most teams have signed up but it’s not too late to get in on the action. Signups don’t close until Sunday 24th March.

 Kritzkast #210: Maps vs Machines | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:47:02

We’re joined by theharribokid, a senior admin for TF2Maps.net, to bring you the public voting of community made MvM maps. Jump on one of the servers, try them out and vote on your favorite. If their April Fools’ maps [koth_foolsgrid, pl_badwater_rainy and cp_degrootkeep_nomed] are anything to go by you’ll be in for a treat. In other news the items introduced with Runner 2 and Brütal Legend are now giftable and tradeable but the Tux penguin is no longer acquirable. Oh, and there’s been a few other bug fixes which Ruskeydoo want’s to share with you. Gabe is in the news again as he’s being honored with a BAFTA Fellowship in London this week. I wonder if he’ll try whacking someone with his award, see if they turn to bronze (with a wooden base). The official TF2wiki hits 30,000 pages. We take a crack at explaining what that actually entails though, to be be fair, we’re probably less well informed than you. Lab Zero are having problems with their Skull Girls/TF2 hat promo item. They’ve been advised that it won’t be getting into the game after all. On the flip, Valve are supporting a new Polycount competition called “Escape“. No details on how exactly but hey, it’s Valve, I’m pretty sure the winners won’t be short changed.

KritzKast interviews Brad Pitt | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:05

We have had it on the cards to interview Brad Pitt, the man behind backpack.tf, for some time. As the year turned we posted a request for you to submit questions. Some time later we’d sorted through the 6000+ entries and selected some good ones. I asked HelenAngel from SteamRep, Helene our head admin for the KK|GU servers, as well as Brad Pitt himself to pick out a couple of their favourite questions from the 240 short-list. What follows is the interview we recorded Feb 14th 2013. Those lucky few who’s questions were asked and answered here you each receive a Vintage Lo-Fi Longwave and a badge on your bp profile. Congratulations go to: Lemons from  Dublin, Ireland That One Guy from  London, England Bracey from  St Neots, England Turtle from  Brisbane, Australia Jevgein from  Hamburg, Germany Crit from  USA Stex from  Pennsylvania, USA Fusilli Zaitsev from  NJ, USA alberto balsalm from (the great unknown) Rickybobby from  Virginia Beach, Virginia Ryo from (the great unknown) Haydn from  Leeds, England Feuer from  Hungary Brian from  United States SlowJoe from  Würzburg, Germany Cedar from  Ontario, Canada Ryan Dang from  United States Metaphor from  Singapore Crosshack from  Australia snesk from  Sweden Long218 from  Orlando, Florida Mattie from  United States RedXM from  Massachusetts, USA Our thanks go to everyone who submitted questions, Brad Pitt for being so good as to answer them and to Voltey for his SFM artwork. So long as there’s Team Fortress 2 there will be KritzKast.

Kritzkast #209: Update on the pipeline | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:56:36

If you haven’t been deafened by the new taunt for Brutal legend this week then boy do we have a show for you! We’ve had more promos than you can shake a stick at, with a literal metric ton of items from Bioshock infinate, including my personal favorite a cricketers box for the pyro’s face. Also, I think some medals got fixed or something (don’t worry, if you’re not Ruskey you can just skip that bit). Valve has forewarned us about the impending apocalypse [Dun Dun Duuuuuuunnn], we may have to re-download Team Fortress 2! They’ve been upgrading some of their steam games including TF2 and the rest of the orange box to be delivered via Steampipe. Steam’s new content distribution which seems like it could cause some trouble for quite a few people. But veering away from valve’s side of things, we’ve had a bit of a mix-up in the TF2 casting community with VanillaTF2 and Teamfortres.tv expanding into new territory and people shifting about all over the place. Keeping on the casting side of things, Bluee seems to have been working on a tool to make a casters life a whole lot easier: being able to see the players team coloured outlines through walls featured in the video below. Some news now on an incoming hat into TF2, Skullgirls: a 2D beat-em up game on the Playstation network and Xbox live which is making it’s way on to steam, but not before it has one hell of an indiegogo campaign with an exclusive TF2 hat as one of the rewards. closing up on the show we have some news on the community vs pro’s tournament of the horizon, there has been a call for any 6′s team to come and train up the community team before their big match.

KritzKast #208: Linux, Layoffs and Legends | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:15

After months of closed Betas, Open Beta and Hype, Steam is now finally available on Linux, along with it TF2 is now available on 3 different platforms. Then to add some icing on this moment, Valve have added a new promotional item in TF2, for those of you who manage to log onto TF2 in linux before march the 1st. The Tux.  But will this become the new earbuds? However that wasn’t the only item to creep into the game. If you pre-order BIT.TRIP Presents… Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Yeah that is a really long name for a game) then you’ll receive genuine Buck Turner All-Stars. There are also a pile of Ruskeydoo made Medals for those who played in any league this season In the world of Valve, we talk about how 15 people have all left Valve at the same time. Is it a mass culling, is it a mass upheaval, who knows….actually Gabe does and has assured us no projects are being cancelled. That is of course when he wasn’t sitting on stage talking storytelling with JJ Abrams. To top the show off we talk about an item not yet in the game (although due to the length of time it took for me to edit the episode….it is now in the game) That’s right, its the Brutal legends promo items, featuring (as far as we can recall) the first taunt you can acquire via a promotion. Want it yourself, then click here and pre-order Brutal Legends before February 26th. PS – Stick around after the “Credits”

 KritzKast #207: The Harlem Tux | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:46:19

You may recognise our guest from such episodes as KK#200 and videos as the TF2 Wiki, we welcome Benjamoose to the show.  Ruskeydoo has checked out the Import tool and found it to be good. Better than good, he’s really rather excited about it. We’ll let him explain how it works and what makes it so great. One thing that was snuck in recently was the TUX item for Linux users. At time of recording it was a rumour but that’s never stopped us talking about something, has it? Speaking of things we know very little about, NECA, the creators of the 18″ TF2 models have remade chess. This NextChess design features TF2 pieces with interchangeable hats! Another thing that was implemented without our knowing was the “show marketable borders” for your backpack. Lord Illusion went all out this week. He played 24hours of Team Fortress 2 on our servers in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. You can show your support by dropping a donation in his pot (if you pardon the phrase). You may even bag an Atomizer bat, signed by Robin Walker himself or an Unusual Birdcage with bubbles. Back on the rumour mill and several items have been discovered in SourceFilmmaker. Everything from a Sword Van to an original cartoon, to the hospital set from Meet the Medic. We’ll let you discover those for yourself in this Tumblr blog. Oh so much information and so little confirmation. Gabe and J. J. Abrams may soon be working together on a film, if this report from joystiq is to be believed. Lastly, we’ll leave you with this video. With everyone is jumping on the Harlem Shake meme bandwagon it should come as no surprise to find someone has made a TF2 version too. Kick back, relax and listen to the show.

KritzKast #206: Gabe talks, We listen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:41

For some reason Gabe Newell could talk about anything and make it sound like the most interesting topic in the world. Lucky for us, earlier this week, Gabe was speaking at the University of Texas. He spoke about the path that valve have taken, the path they may follow in the future and how the changes in TF2 rocked the gaming world. He talks about valve being the 4th largest bandwidth user in the world. He talks about……You know what. we talk about him talking in the episode. But if you’d like to listen to it yourself (we highly recommend you do) you should watch the whole thing here……plus a little extra here. It’s not all about Gabe though. Over at Facepunch some wonderful people stumbled upon some new “TF2″ items in Source Film Maker. We’re not sure what they are exactly. Some of them look like old unused designs, Some look like tributes to TFC, others….just look crazy. Either way, its something for us to play with while we wait for our TF2 Action figures to arrive in the post. You may already have yours if your lucky enough. If you do, you’ll realize that they come with a Genuine quality Glengarry Bonnet for the demo and Brigade Helm for the Pyro. As for the community, this week you guys have been busy. The Robot Boogaloo pack we talked about last week managed to get its promo video after all. Check it out. its really good and makes you want to wear robot hats. eXtv have finally put out a teaser for their documentary about i46. If you look really closely, you can see Ruskey’s foot. Plus ETF2L are running a 1 day cup to see how good the vaccinator really is in competitive TF2. Of course we couldn’t go this week with out thanking our new Sponsor, TF2shop.net. Thanks guys.

 KritzKast #205: beepsman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00:01

We are joined by the man who’s name we cannot show, oh all right then it’s… the BEEPsman [Damnit Doug, stop editing my posts!] He’s here to talk about the TF2 Robitic Boogaloo where item makers have remade their hats for the robots. There will be a comic (hopefully) and so much other good stuff. The Cave promos items and Smissmas cosmetics are now craftable. Menpo and the the Last Straw are paintable and the Digvulger has new styles. Valve has updated their Import Tool, lucky we have some item makers on the show to talk about that. You can get your hands on Bot Killer and Vintage items in the Steam Market. While we’re on about websites, Steam Chat is live in beta on a website. ozfortress’ League admin, bladez has created LiveLogs a site that will allow you to watch server logs as they happen. NECA’s action figures are available directly from the Valve store. We have two videos for you this week. The first comes from STAR_ with whom we played a few hours of the new server mod, The Hidden. The second belongs to our player of the week, Dr Face, with his SFM short called “Man vs Martians”

 KritzKast #204: Medieval BBall | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:54

I can’t tell you how close this episode came to being called “Gordon Freeman’s ass”. Good taste won out. For once. That said we did spend a disproportionate period of time looking at the new model from Gaming Heads. In more sane moments we looked at the news that some items (festive sandvich, buff banner, huntsman and robo-sandvich) are now being allowed in Medieval mode. The Steam guides have gone live. ETF2L is running a Basket Ball tournament with teams of two having signed up across the world. It’s too late to enter now but there will be plenty of exciting viewing ahead. Speaking of which the ETF2L Season 3 Highlander grand finals have been played out. That Sonic All Stars racing game featuring a TF2 team is on Steam now. Community Invasion – where KritzKast raids another community’s server ever Wednesday has begun. You can volunteer your community. Best of all we have HelenAngel from SteamRep in the show with us. We plague her with questions about the latest scams and what you can do to protect yourself from being ripped off.
