Vinyl Tap for iPad (review) | File Type: video/x-m4v | Duration: 7:57

For the last 3 days I have been playing with this fantastic iPad application called Vinyl Tap and I have loved every minute of it. Vinyl Tap is a novelty application for your iPad that simulates a record player to play the music you have on your iPad. The detail of this application is amazing, it even includes the "pop and scratch" sounds when you first place the needle on an album. Vinyl Tap features two different players: T-800 which is a standard turntable with multi-colored strobe simulator and the T-1000 which is a linear tracking turntable that features a digital display and track scanner. More players are coming to the application in the future, stay tuned. Let me talk about the attention to detail with this application, the animation for flipping the album is superb. If you load an entire album onto the turntable you will see a full 12" album, if you load a single onto the turntable a 7" album is displayed. Lift the needle during the middle of a track and hear the scratching noises, place it in the middle of a track and hear the pops like you would on a real turntable. Features: Full support for the new iPad Retina display Who needs crates when you can browse your albums as a wall of art Select from two beautifully re-imagined turntables Play albums from your iTunes library (DRM files not supported) Authentic vinyl sounds Both LPs and Singles Vinyl Tap LPs and Singles look like their real life counterparts Album art record labels 3D flipping of the records to their other side Standard turntable: Pivoting tone arm Select between 33RPM and 45RPM Multicolored strobe simulator Linear tracking turntable: Auto detection of LPs and Singles Digital display showing track number, RPM and play status Jog wheel Track scanner Previous/Next track buttons   If you are wanting a retro feel for your music on the iPad then Vinyl Tap is the application for you. Vinyl Tap is an iPad only application and it is $1.99 in the iOS App Store. You can download it here:   Developers Website

Total iPad Interview – Logan Sease | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:44

Last night after recording Episode 15 of Total iPad, I had a chance to interview an iOS developer, Logan Sease. Logan not only develops for iOS but he also ports some of his iOS applications to Android as well. During the interview I asked him question about when he started coding and what was the first programming language he learned, why he started coding for iOS, and what applications he currently has in the iOS App Store. The 2nd part of the interview was all about unFed unDead, this is Logan's upcoming social game to be released on the iPhone on June 29, 2012. I have played the beta version of it and I can honestly say it is a fun and unique gaming experience, it has a different feel to it than other iOS games I have played. Once unFed unDead is released you will team up with 3 of your iPhone toting buddies and feed on the humans. Facebook will be integrated with unFed unDead and you will be able to see your friends high scores, there is also a social game API that Logan has released for other developers to use. When unFed unDead is launched it will be iPhone only although an iPad version is in the works and will be released at a later date, unFed unDead will be $0.99 in the iOS App Store once released. Bonus level, yeah, I will not talk about that but it is awesome! Trust me, once it is released and you unlock the bonus level you will love it! unFed unDead is now available for download: unFed unDead by iParty!  Paper by 53 (Review) | File Type: video/mp4 | Duration: 5:01

Paper is a beautiful art application for the iPad, but it can also be used as a journal or to take notes by hand. This is a creative application for creative minds. The feel of the app is simple yet elegant. Paper is a free app but it offers several in-app purchases for different brushes or pencils. You start out with "Draw" and 9 colors to choose from, as well as the eraser tool. Other options for in-app purchase include: Sketch Outline Write Color Check out some of the fantastic made with Paper art. Paper won an Apple Design Award. You can download Paper in the app store: Paper by FiftyThree - FiftyThree, Inc. Developer Website ** NOTE ** I previously reviewed this when Paper by 53 was first launched, but I figured since they won an Apple Design Award, Total iPad would be a good place to share the demo.

Diptic for iPad (Review) | File Type: video/x-m4v | Duration: 7:48

Diptic is a universal photography application for the iPad and the iPhone, it allows you to create frames with multiple images in 1 photo. It offers 14 filters for your photos as well as other image editing features such as layouts and custom borders. Diptic allows you to export your images to the most popular social networks. I did have a problem with the way the marketed the in-app purchases but other than that the app is great. FEATURES:  • 52 standard layouts (one to five photos in each layout) • Frame slider lets you customize inner frame dimensions • 14 filters (requires iOS5) • Adjust border color and width • Create rounded inner and outer borders with a slider that lets you control curvature • Create Diptics using photos you snap on the spot with your iPhone or iPad camera, photos from your camera roll, or import photos from Facebook or Flickr • Shake to clear functionality on every screen lets you easily clear settings/photos and start over • Pan, rotate, mirror and zoom individual photos • Adjust brightness, contrast, hue and color saturation for each image • Send Diptics directly to Instagram and any app that accepts JPGs (Camera+, Filterstorm, Dropbox, Evernote, GoodReader, etc.) • Share Diptics via email or send to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter (must have iOS5 for Twitter export), Posterous Community or Tumblr • High resolution export option for all devices and large high resolution for iPhone 4S and iPad 3 • iPad 3 Retina Display • Random Layout Selection: Can't choose? Use this feature to randomly select one of 52 layouts • Random Photo Selection: Roll the dice to randomly select photos from your camera roll • Gallery Mode lets you see what other people are creating with Diptic • Optional Expandable Layouts (in-app purchase) lets you adjust outer dimensions Diptic is $0.99 in the App Store you can download Diptic here: Developers Website

iA Writer (review) | File Type: video/x-m4v | Duration: 6:04

iA Writer is one of my all around favorite iPad applications, coupled with an Apple bluetooth keyboard it makes a great combination. I have been using iA Writer on my iPad for about 6 months now, iA Writer also has an OS X counterpart that syncs beautifully using iCloud. I should mention that iA Writer is a universal application so it will run on your iPhone or iPod Touch as well. All that is nice but that is not what I love about iA Writer, what I love about it is the beautiful whitespace I view on my iPad when I am typing, no distractions, after a few lines the paragraph will just fade away allowing you to focus on what you are writing.  iA Writer is not a word processor or text editor, it is just a writing app and nothing more. There are no settings with iA Writer, well there is one for the iPad, Focus Mode = On or Off. That is what makes it ideal, I don't want to worry about text size or font. I just want to write. My normal workflow for blogging on my iPad revolves around 2 applications - iA Writer and Blogsy. I usually write my content in iA Writer then copy the text and paste it in Blogsy to format it, add photos or videos and get it ready to post to my personal blog. I also write most of what is on Total iPad in iA Writer and Blogsy as well. Features: Seamless sync between Mac, iPhone and iPad iCloud Dropbox Keyboard extension with ← → and punctuation keys FocusMode™ lets you concentrate on active text (iPad only) Typeface optimized for iPhone and iPad Download iA Writer here: Developers Website

vjay for iPad (review) | File Type: video/x-m4v | Duration: 14:42

vjay1 is a video mashup application for your iPad. It is an awesome application and offers a tremendous amount of features, but all those features come with a steep learning curve. vjay is a tremendous amount of fun though and I do highly recommend it. It is a 5 star application all the way around, you just need to spend some time learning the features of the application. It is meant to mash up live performances with transitions while mashing up both the video and audio tracks. Think of vjay as a diet version of Final Cut Pro for the iPad. I do mention in the video several times how the learning curve is steep, but after spending several hours with the app I have learned a lot about mixing my videos and adding nice transitions and getting my 2 videos to sync properly. You have several options for getting videos into vjay, you can use some preloaded videos and transitions that comes with the application. You can import your own personal videos from your iPhone or from an external camera, just remember that the video needs to be 720P. You can also purchase music videos from the iTunes store to mash up your own rendition of your favorite music video. This is a nice complement to iMovie. After you have created your videos you can save them to the camera roll on your iPad and then they are ready for uploading to Vimeo or Blip.tv. Features: Media Access - Create stunning mashups using all your media on your iPad, including videos, music, and footage from camera roll. vjay also comes with a free bundle of pre-loaded music video and high-quality footage. Real-time video transitions, audio visuals effects – vjay comes with stunning audio & video effects, looping tools, visual transitions, and real-time VideoScratch™. Live movie recording and sharing – With a simple touch of a button, easily save your mashups to the iPad in real-time and share with friends. Support for external displays – Easily plug into a TV and stream videos wirelessly to Apple TV. Built-in camera integration - Quickly record your own video clips using the built-in iPad camera and add them to your mixes on the fly Integration with iTunes Store – browse, search, preview and purchase music videos on iTunes from within the app.   Important Links: Developers Website Help Guide Developer's Demo Video   The app is currently $9.99 at the time of this recording, it is a sale price so if you are thinking about buying it, now would be the time. You can download it here: 1 it is spelled vjay by the developer, they do not pluralize it.

 Episode 14 – What happened to 13 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:25

This week we discuss our thoughts on yesterdays WWDC Keynote where iOS 6 was previewed. We discuss some of the features we can look forward to as well as a few things we are disappointed about with iOS 6. Apple still hasn't slapped on a new coat of paint for iOS, we both feel that folders needs a refinement as well as the dock. We would love to see stacks similar to OSX on iOS. Patrick reviewed Apple's new Smart Case. We also have our app picks and our tips for the week.
