The British History Podcast show

The British History Podcast

Summary: The BHP is a chronological retelling of the history of Britain with a particular focus upon the lives of the people. You won’t find a dry recounting of dates and battles here, but instead you’ll learn about who these people were and how their desires, fears, and flaws shaped the scope of this island at the edge of the world. And some of those desires are downright scandalous. Click subscribe to view all the episodes.

This episode covers the years 56 BCE to 55 BCE Today we’re going to talk about Giaus Julius Caesar. Just about everyone knows who Julius Caesar was, but for those of you who aren’t sure and are wondering if he’s the salad guy... remember that Roman who was stabbed to death on the Senate floor, including by his friend Brutus, which lead to the Shakesperean phrase et tu brutae? Well, that’s the guy! And Caesar wanted Britannia... In one stroke he could stabilize his provinces and add substantial power to his name by crossing the feared ocean and bringing the end of the world within the province of Rome. His path could not have been more clearly laid out before him. Unfortunately, there were legal issues to be dealt with regarding the contemplated invasion. Rome dealt harshly with Governors who acted illegally outside of their own provinces and Caesar had powerful enemies in the Senate who would not miss an opportunity to bring the General down.  1 – Welcome To The British History Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:26

Today I'm posting my first Podcast!  This is something that I've been thinking about doing for some time, and I'm excited to finally share my thoughts on British history with the pocasting community.  The podcasts are going to be organized in chronological order and I'm going to try to be as thorough as possible, while still focusing on the human drama that drove the events. You'll notice that, when you listen to the podcasts, I'm trying to keep to a conversational tone.  Basically, I'm not working from a script, which I felt resulted in a wooden delivery, and instead I'm working loosely off of notes.  I hope that this format results in a more engaging and personable style. As I mention in my Introduction podcast, I'm a Brit who's lived most of his life in the US.  Consequently, I speak with an American accent and I hope that isn't too much of an issue for my listeners.  I know there are expectations on accents for certain subjects, but there's little I can do about it now.  I lost my accent many years ago, after all. Anyway, I'm quite excited about this new project and I hope you enjoy listening to the podcasts! If you have any questions or comments, please write me at thebritishhistorypodcast@gmail.com Thanks for listening!
