Dr. Laszlo Boros is currently a Professor of Pediatrics at UCLA and the Co-Director of the Stable Isotope Research Laboratory at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute (LABIOMED) at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with a primary focus on studying cancer cell metabolism with the use of a specifically designed 13C-glucose tracer and mass spectroscopy. Born and educated in Hungary, Dr. Boros’ medical background includes three years of gastroenterology and pancreatology, focusing on chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. He spent two years as a visiting scholar in Essen, Germany, studying various animal models of chronic pancreatitis. In 1990, he moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he joined the history-making laboratory of Drs. Zollinger and Ellison, who described hormonal regulatory mechanisms involved in pancreatic cancer growth with a primary emphasis on diagnostics and treatment. In 1995 he became the lead investigator to clinically apply stable isotope technologies to study diabetes and cancer growth in vitro and in animal models at UCLA. He is an expert in using metabolic profiling and mitochondrial nanomechanics to further understanding of particularly aggressive cancers. Dr. Boros also participates in research projects targeting population metabolic disorders, such as diabetes and obesity, and is involved in discovering the underlying mechanisms of rare metabolic disorders arising from genetic mutations affecting vitamin transport.  Dr. Boros is an internationally proclaimed expert of metabolic water biochemistry as well as deuterium mediated kinetic isotopic effects in health and disease. Dr. Boros is the recipient of the C. Williams Hall Outstanding Publication Award from the Academy of Surgical Research of the USA (1997), the Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Research Award from the University of California (2001), the Excellence in Clinical Research Award from the General Clinical Research Center at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (2004), Public Health Impact Investigator Award of the United States Food and Drug Administration (2011) and received a Best Publication Award from the Metabolomics Society and Springer Nature publisher (2014). Layne Dalfen has been interpreting her own and her client’s dreams for years. During her lectures, as well as through her books Have a Great Dream; Book 1; The Overview: Decoding Your Dreams To Discover Your Full Potential, and its companion work Have a Great Dream; Book 2; A Deeper Discussion, Dalfen’s goal is to introduce the general public to the value of understanding their dreams. Dalfen came to her work 45 years ago, after entering Freudian psychoanalysis for depression resulting from giving birth to a daughter suffering from Down Syndrome. Freudian psychoanalysis largely employs dreams as the key to unraveling the psyche. Fascinated by the process, she then enrolled at The Gestalt Counseling and Training Center, Certificate Program. From there, Dalfen delved deeply into dream study with Dr. Leo Gold of The Alfred Adler Institute in New York. A member of The CG Jung Society of Montreal, Dalfen also continues to be an active member at the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD), where she was a board member from 2005 – 2009. She also hosted the IASD’s The 25th Anniversary Conference in Montreal. Since 2005, Dalfen has been lecturing for the counselling students at Concordia University in Montreal. In 1997, Dalfen founded The Dream Interpretation Center in Montreal, where she has been providing guidance to individuals and professional colleagues on dream analysis. While she continues to do private consultations on the phone or via skype, Dalfen also offers workshops for those wishing to learn her unique system. Dr Linda Isaacs Linda L. Isaacs, M.D., received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky, graduating with High Distinction with a major in biochemistry. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She subsequently received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1985. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center at New York University Medical School. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, most recently completing recertification in 2011. Dr. Isaacs worked with her colleague Nicholas J. Gonzalez, M.D., for more than twenty years, using a nutritional approach for treating patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious degenerative illnesses. After his untimely death in July 2015, she has continued with the work they shared. The treatment involves diet, which varies from patient to patient and can range from almost exclusively vegetarian to one that is heavy in animal protein and fat; individualized nutritional supplement protocols, which include large doses of pancreatic enzymes; and procedures such as coffee enemas that help the body rid itself of metabolic wastes. Professor Valter Longo is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of ageing studies and related diseases. His discoveries include some of the major genetic pathways that regulate aging and life-threatening diseases and the identification of a genetic mutation that protects men from several common diseases. He is a Professor of Gerontology and Biological Science and Director of the Longevity Institution at the School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, one of the leading centers devoted to teaching and research on ageing. He is also director of the Oncology Laboratory and longevity at the Institute of Molecular Oncology IFOM in Milan. Professor Longo received the Nathan Shock Lecture Award from the National Institute on Ageing (NIA/NIH) in 2010 and in 2013 the Vincent Cristofalo ‘Rising Star’ Award for Research on Ageing, and the 2016 Glenn Award for research in the Biology of Aging. In 2015, after a number of his papers were among the most widely cited in the biomedical field, Time magazine called him a ‘guru of longevity’. Doctor Longo received a PhD from North Texas in 1992, and another one from UCLA in 1997 and completed post doctoral training in 2000. My guest this week is Iván Figueroa Otero M.D. FACS, FAAMA/  After graduating from the School of Medicine of the University of PR in 1970, Dr. Figueroa Otero trains as General Surgeon at the University Hospital of the UPR School of Medicine, integrating a one-year fellowship in the study of cancer, and one year in experimental research. Post-graduate studies in Pediatric Surgery, then follow at Miami Children’s Hospital and the San Juan Municipal Hospital. Looking for non-surgical or less invasive options for pediatric conditions, Dr. Figueroa Otero explores Eastern philosophies that emphasize a holistic concept of disease. He was one of the first physicians to become certified in medical acupuncture in Puerto Rico, training in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture with professors from the University of Seville. Eventually he was certified in medical acupuncture nationally. In 2009, he became certified in anti- aging medicine and in December of that year he retired from the practice of pediatric surgery, focusing instead on a holistic medical practice and emphasizing disease prevention and modification of life styles. In 2011 he was invited to become a Trustee of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, which is the national body organization responsible for certifying physicians in the field of acupuncture through national exams. In that same year he was recognized by Natural Awakenings magazine as Holistic Physician of the Year. My next guest, Dr William S Eidelman, M.D. has been in the natural healing field for over thirty years. He has  traveled all over the world, and has seen and heard almost everything!  He has learned a lot about natural ways of healing the body, the mind, and the spirit, which he wishes to share with you. He believe that these approaches to healing and to prevention and to awakening can be a boon to each of us, and to the country as a whole. Currently,he works as a consultant in natural approaches to healing. The main treatment modalities are herbs, nutrition, bioelectromagnetism, and meditation. His medical education began when he was a child. His late great father was a professor of psychiatry at St. Louis University School Of Medicine. He was the only non-Freudian in the department of psychiatry for 25+ years, so Dr Eidelman learned early that being different wasn’t bad. He showed his understanding that everyone in medicine has a lot to learn, that no one really knows all (or even most of) the answers and that doctors do the best they can, which was sometimes successful and often not. So this was Dr Eidelman’s (mostly unconscious) attitude when he started medical school. Once there, it seemed like something was missing from the medical program, but Dr Eidelman couldn’t say quite what it was at the time. It seemed like they were going in the wrong direction in several basic ways. Now he realize that there were several topics missing or neglected. First: After graduating from medical school, and beginning residency training in psychiatry, Dr Eidelman was introduced to the concept of bio-energy. This idea was never mentioned in medical school, except for the ridicule given to any idea which was patently impossible, such as the idea of bio-energy! Bio-energy, in the eyes of scientists, had been discredited by 1900. However, by this time, 1975, acupuncture and its theory of bio-energy flows had reached the United States, and seemed to hold clinical truth, and therefore must have a scientific basis.He began personally experimenting, and found that it was real — according to his subjective awareness. Later, he found that Robert O. Becker, M.D., and his team of researchers had proven that the body is literally a liquid crystal, and is full of semi-conducting electrical currents and their electromagnetic fields — billions of them throughout the body, creating an incredibly harmonic energy field of primary importance in health, healing, and consciousness. Some of the implications which you can use directly will be found in therapeutic devices such as the Alpha-Stim and QRS for creating health and enhancing well-being. These are his two favorites of a growing field of effective, even revolutionary therapies. On this level, the future is very bright. Now, he has discovered that the Alpha-Stim, which has been in wide use for at least 15 years, blocks cravings for cigarettes and other addictive drugs. Second: When he began medical school in 1971,he took an elective course in nutrition (along with four of his one hundred and fifty classmates).He brought literature from health food stores to the class. The professor, Dr. Max Horwitt, was and is an eminent nutritionist. He lampooned, chastised, and ridiculed the authors, their science, and their beliefs. The old view was basically this: If you eat a normal diet with a variety of all the different food groups, you will get all the nutrition you need to be healthy.
