Jeff Murray K1NSS and Dash the Dog Faced Ham! | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 02:00:00

Jeff Murray K1NSS In the sixties Jeff became WN2EXW in Whitesboro, NY. Upgrading to General, he joined the Utica Amateur Radio Club and worked 20,40, CW, DX as WB2EXW until saying good-bye to all that in 1966. Forty-something years later he returned to the Empire State as K1NSS -- his sentimental vanity suffix references the Navy station that he says patiently taught him V, D, E, N and S, his first five letters of Morse, received on his first shortwave set, an Ocean Hopper. Amateur radio not quite aside, I also draw a web cartoon feature called Dash! The Dog-Faced Ham. In the 1980s, I drew comics for alternative media like the New York Press, Baltimore/DC City Papers and San Diego Reader, plus editorial cartoons for a chain of suburban Boston weeklies.

Bill Pasternak WA6ITF of Amatuer Radio Newsline | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 02:00:00

In the world of hobby radio Bill Pasternak is probably best known as the Producer Writer of the weekly Amateur Radio Newsline ARNewsline bulletin service. Now a 501C3 not-for-profit, public service corporation, Bill co-founded Amateur Radio Newsline, Inc. as the Westlink Radio Network in 1976 with Jim Hendershot Amateur Radio call letters WA6VQP. Bill currently serves on the Board of Directors of Amateur Radio Newsline, Inc. as well as producing its newscasts. In 1986, Bill Pasternak originated the "Young Ham of the Year" award program which is administered by the Amateur Radio Newsline, Inc. Bill created the award after realizing that -- other than scholarship programs -- there was no program anywhere to acknowledge the numerous accomplishments of the youth of Amateur Radio. It was then, and continues to be his belief that the real-life experience of being honored for their youthful accomplishments in Amateur Radio may lead the award winners -- and through their example - many also lead other young radio amateurs into technology based careers that will make them the scientific, telecommunications and educational leaders of the future. This award program which each year sponsors one young radio amateur to a week at the U.S. Space Camp is underwritten by Vertex-Standard Corporation Yaesu brand Amateur Radio products and CQ Publishing Company CQ Magazine.

A Tribute to the late Bill Decker N4VMY | File Type: audio/x-mp3 | Duration: 02:00:00

Recorded at Heil Sound as several of Bill's friends pay him tribute and talk abut Bill's contribution to Amateur Radio. Amateur Radio has so many diversities. One of them is designing and building your own equipment to receive and transmit signals. Bill Decker N4VMY was one of those that not only built his equipment but loved to share parts and ideas. Several years ago, Bill started thinking about building a very special AM transmitter for one of his dearest ham radio friends K0VCD Bill Dennision who lived in Springfield, Mo. Decker started collecting parts and ideas while trying to keep this project news from Dennison. When finished, Bill put it on the air one night for all to hear and then loaded it in his little red pickup truck and drove to Springfield, Mo. whereupon he unloaded it at Bill Dennison's tobacco shop where at least a dozen or more hams would gather each Saturday morning. It was a very special occasion as Bill Decker presented his home brew transmitter to Bill Dennison. About a year later Bill Decker passed away and shortly after Bill Dennison suffered a severe stroke and the transmitter never got to produce a signal. When the tobacco shop was closed and some of Bill's equipment was stored, arrangements were made to find a proper home for this transmitter built with great expertise, care and love. It was decided by some of the many friends of both Bills that it should go back very near Leitchfield, Ky where Bill Decker lived. Some of Bill's friend decided it should go to Steve Williams, KB4DMF. Not only was Steve a close friend of Bill Deckers, he gave him his Novice license test back in the mid 1980's. Steve also helped Bill find some parts and helped in the building of this transmitter which Steve never thought he would see again. This very special transmitter now resides in Steve's radio shack and is - for the first time - on the air. Just the way Bill Decker would have wanted it. Several of the 3875 kHz group met at Heil Sound on November 17, 2009 to do the transfer over to Steve. Those friends of the Bills, were Bruce W9OTN, Bob K0VCD, Cliff K9JTS , and Bob Heil, K9EID.

Nancy Williams NR4RR does volunteer work with American Red Cross and other agencies. She retired from work with Tri-County Community College as an English/Creative Writing instructor in May, 2005. Since then, she has tackled a new career of sorts: writing professionally. She began a HAM RADIO mystery/sci-fi novel in 2000, which she finished in 2002. She spent the next three or four years revising the story, A Matter of Destiny, according to suggestions from several wonderful mentors. She brought out the second edition of Destiny on her own at the start of 2008. Destiny involves murder, mayhem, government coverup, and as already mentioned, ham radio and is based on a true event that occurred at Brookhaven, New York in 1992. For ordering information or a preview of my novel, please visit my website at www.nlwilliamswriter.com #xA Steve Williams KC4AZO was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and has lived in the Atlanta and North Georgia area for most of his life. Steve has always had a fascination with roads, roadmaps, roadsigns, and anything else road-related. In late 1997, I discovered that there were many folks like himself who had a fondness for roads and discovered that he, too, was a "roadgeek". His first road-related website was "The Unofficial Georgia Highways Web Page", which he supported from 1997 through 2002. In October, 2005, inspired by his brother-in-law Lib's blog, Steve decided to create his own road-related blog, thus "The Georgia Road Geek" was born. In July, 2006, He purchased additional webspace on GoDaddy.com and expanded his website to include a video series called "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!", special feature pages, and the occasional podcast.
