In what is the longest Camera Dojo Podcast ever, we spend the evening with Vincent Versace. During this podcast we discuss how we should be paying attention to the blur in our images more than what is in focus. This out of focus is called Bokeh (pronounced Bow Kay).  Vincent blows our minds by teaching us that many of the things that we have been told and accepted over the years are simply not accurate. Next we go into a discussion of focus and that misconception of how focal length affects depth of field. The reality is that it has no affect on depth of field but the focal length affects the apparent focus is because a smaller object will appear less out of focus where a larger object will appear to more out of focus. Vincent challenges us all to spend a day shooting and only paying attention to what is not in focus and not what is in focus. Next we have a discussion of black and white images and processing. This description only touches the surface of the conversation as it runs all over the map but is one of the most entertaining and education shows we have ever done. It’s been far too long since we have had our good friend Syl Arena on the show and with his crazy schedule (and hair) it’s no wonder. We finally managed to schedule a time to get Syl on the phone and talk shop for a bit. Kerry and Chris start off with talking about how to take care of yourself and your gear when shooting in the heat of summer. Widely regarded as one of the top five best wedding photographers in the world, Jerry Ghionis is based in Melbourne, Australia and Beverly Hills, California and travels frequently on international photography assignments and speaking engagements. Recently our Co-Host Chris Diset attended a webinar with about Fundy Software to see if it would help his album design for his wedding clients.  Chris was so impressed with the software he bought it right on the spot and has been using it to design his albums. Kerry and Chris start off the show talking about the benefits of cleaning out your computer once in a while with compressed air. In Kerry’s case, his computer’s temperature dropped by over 20 degrees. Kerry uses a monitoring tool called SpeedFan to monitor temperatures and manage fan speeds. Our guest today is Doug Mcnamee who has been a professional photographer for over 25 years, Doug has had photo studios in Seattle, Tokyo, Taipei and is now in Santa Monica. In addition to shooting, Doug recently spent two years as photography trainer to a nation-wide wedding photo agency. In 2007, he started tiltnshift photo workshops, offering learning and portfolio-building opportunities for new photographers. Shortly after buying his first iPhone, that device also became his favorite camera. Doug has been the featured photographer on several iPhone photography websites. His iPhone prints have been exhibited in gallery shows in Berlin, New York, San Francisco, and Orange County. Aaron made some big waves a few years ago with a daily video blog.
