Episode 403 – The Weather Looks Grim Up North | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:06:16

In case you thought that getting several feet of snow dumped on you was bad, we remind you that the plight of the Roman soldier in AD126 was way, way worse. This cheeky tale, "It's Grim Up North," is a historic radio sitcom about the plight of Rome's men manning Hadrian's Wall, specifically, life at Milecastle 17 - Drizzlewort. Widely considered to be the worst posting of all for those Romans soldiers unfortunate enough to be serving the Empire in Britain, life in Drizzlewort not only consists of building the wall but also manning the gate, which acts as a customs post and access point for local traders, and where sentry duty mostly involves keeping out the deadly, if hard-to-pin-down Picts. The soldiers posted to Drizzlewort never stop complaining, and are generally the lowest of the low, most of whom would desert given half a chance. However, every cloud has a silver lining and, given the place’s strategic importance and isolation, there are always good business opportunities for people who can manipulate the system… Produced by Ed Waugh & Trevor Wood, originally commissioned by BBC Radio Cumbria for a five-part radio sitcom.  Episode 402 – Gareth Stack’s “Choices” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:26:41

Some fantastic radio comedy from the Emerald Isle this week! Gareth Stack, founder of "Dead Medium" productions, based in Dublin, tells the story of Ainesh, an under confident, over intellectual Indian-Irish twenty something. Ainesh has always been a victim of circumstance; working jobs he didn’t enjoy and failing to live up to his potential. Now, sacked from his factory job and thrown out of home by his disappointed parents, Ainesh is forced to train as a psychotherapist. His course is in ‘Choosing Therapy’, the philosophy that we choose our own destiny, and that everything that happens is our fault. With nowhere to stay, Ainesh is forced to live with two of his bizarre classmates. We follow him as he learns whether there really is such a thing as choice, and if so, how he can make his own destiny. Dig in! 2015 has only just begun!  In this episode, Gareth Stack, Irish audio producer and playwright, interviews the masterful Roger Gregg in his podcast series "Mad Scientists of Music." Roger is, of course, founder of Crazy Dog Audio Theatre and one of the living grand masters of contemporary audio theater.  Stack's interview reveals Roger as the brilliant, bizarre, ranting Irish artist he is - and gosh how audio theater misses him!  We'll be back with a feature length episode later this week featuring a brilliant comedy of Gareth's called "Choices."  Episode 400 – A Christmas Carol by Voices in the Wind | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:35:06

This week we feature the work of Voices in the Wind, a group based out of Toronto, CA who are producing their own original material as well as classics, such as we'll hear today, "A Christmas Carol." You know the drill, Ebeneezer Scrooge is a jerk and his life is transformed by a bunch of ghosts. It is a haunting tale of wrongdoing and redemption that resonates with the ages, with some 40+ adaptations currently available in audio and many more produced through the ages. In fact, our friend Craig Wichman has compiled a text JUST covering this topic, "Standing in the Spirit at Your Elbow: A History of Dicken's Christmas Carol as Radio/Audio Drama." "Voices" rendition leans towards the traditional, embracing the 'ghostly' part of this ghost story of Christmas. Also don't miss their Moonlight Audio Theatre app which has tons of selections of audio programming for your enjoyment. ALSO!!! Do not miss Neil Gaiman / Terry Pratchett's GOOD OMENS adapted by Dirk Maggs for the BBC, currently streaming on iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04knt4h The post Episode 400 – A Christmas Carol by Voices in the Wind appeared first on Radio Drama Revival.

 Episode 396 – Fighting Off the Hordes But “We’re Alive” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:38

As a sort of post-Thanksgiving treat, we're going to feature a show that features a whole of feasting... of human flesh. Oh yeah, it is the ultimate Zombie apocalypse podcast, We're Alive, with something like 20 millions downloads and 40ish hours of zombie apocalypse adventure. For Army Reserve soldier Michael Cross, the world as he knows it ends in an instant. One minute he’s in college, and the next rioters are roaming the highway around him, breaking into cars and literally tearing people apart. This is the day the dead walk. This is the world of We’re Alive. We first started featuring We're Alive back in 2009 when the series was just starting to - ahem - infect the podcast world. It now has fully completed the story, with the entirety available through the series podcast, or in their uncut glory through Downpour.com: Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 (Season 4 coming soon!).
