The television has gone through many changes since its inception: from being a piece of furniture in your home, to going with you to the beach, or being just another device you connect to your Wi-Fi network. In 2009, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il issued a pardon to two Current TV journalists who were recently charged for perpetrating hostile acts against the communist state. After a visit from former President William Clinton, Laura Ling and Euna Lee were released. They were detained on March 17th. "It was the third time that I've heard her voice since March 17 when they were first detained. And it was a very different call from the two previous calls. She was very deliberate and clear in her message, which was, look, you just have to know that we did violate North Korean law. We broke the law, we are sorry, and we need help. We need our government's help to try and get amnesty because that really is our only hope." - Laura Ling, speaking with KCRA-TV Full Day in Tech History podcast show notes for August 4 Social.fm closes it's doors eMule is first released IBM PS/2 Model 2 is released

Hosts: Jason Howell, Megan Morrone Guest: Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Just one year ago emerged a would-be competitor to Amazon’s massive e-commerce behemoth. Jet.com launched last July, armed with more than $500 million of venture funding, and in one month became the #4 marketplace online in terms of sales...beating out Best Buy, Newegg, Sears and others. But it’s aim was to beat Amazon at its own game, and now, Walmart is apparently in talks to buy Jet.com which would signal defeat in its ambitions. Tesla reports earnings, Moon Express wants to monetize moon rocks, and an update on yesterday's report regarding the security of Telegram. Plus, Father Robert Ballecer reports live from the floor of Black Hat. Finally, a bus in China that straddles cars. Download or subscribe to this show at https://twit.tv/shows/tech-news-today.
