MSP: 008 – Walt Disney World : Golf

Main Street Podcast show

Summary: There are many different facets to Walt Disney World that many people may not even know about. For Show #008 we have a great conversation with Marc from The Unofficial Walt Disney World Golf Guide and www.wdwgolf.com. We'll talk briefly about the courses and their design, plus the recent change from Disney Management running the Golf Courses to having Arnold Palmer Golf Management running the operations of the Golf Courses. The former Eagle Pines course, which closed in 2007 as part of the Four Seasons resort development, was designed by Pete Dye. Osprey Ridge is scheduled to transition to the new Four Seasons Resort, which is being built next to the new Disney Golden Oak community. Osprey is scheduled to make that transition sometime next year, while the resort is scheduled to open in 2014. This entire plan has been impacted by the recession and is running a few years behind schedule. After the transition of Osprey Ridge, Disney World will be back to the original three Joe Lee courses, plus Oak Trail. Amenities - Full clubhouse with locker room facilities at each course. Driving range and practice greens at each as well. Challenge/Difficulty level - Championship caliber courses, though as with most, proper selection of tees makes the courses playable for all skill levels. Events: PGA Tour - This is the last year of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals sponsorship. Thus the future of the event is logically in question, as Disney and Palmer Golf will be looking for a new title sponsor. This activity should begin soon, if not already, as the PGA Tour event was just held last week. There have been a variety of title sponsors over the years, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.
