Foundations: What’s Wrong Here? (The 5:15)

Summary: The first two chapters of Genesis tell us the account of creation, and if we spend just a few moments imagining that incredible act, our only response toward God can be, simply, "Wow." To see God's power, purpose, and presence in creating the cosmos–and humanity in the midst of it all to rule and worship–is truly stunning. But sadly, that beautiful portrait is a far cry from the world we live in now. What happened? What went wrong? Where was God? Since the fateful day in the Garden, every generation of people has ruefully asked these questions. This week's passage, Genesis 3-11, actually reveals the reasons we have such serious problems. We see the catastrophic effect of sins impacting the first marriage, the first family, the first cultures, and the first societies. But in the midst of it all, God's question to Adam and Eve in the moment of their treason pierces our hearts: "Where are you?" He has not abandoned us to the mess; in fact, he loves us so much that even in our worst moments he seeks us out and promises to restore what was lost. Downloads
