Summary: U.S. Mission Uganda hosted maternal health expert Dr. Jane Dimer for a four-day speaker program from May 13 – 16, 2012. Dr. Dimer spoke to audiences at three local universities – Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, and Uganda Martyrs University, and to 70 girls in the Rising Stars Mentoring Program. Uganda’s maternal mortality rate continues at an unacceptably high level, with as many as 13,000 women and girls dying each year due to pregnancy-related complications.
