Episode 005 - Winter Prospecting In Washington State

Ore Dump Podcast show

Summary: The episode opens with a lively discussion on the continued run in gold and silver in the commodities markets. While gold is currently butting up against nearly $1400/oz it was interesting to hear that the metal to watch in the coming months is silver. Silver closed on Friday at $26.73. This week’s forums 'Stump the Expert' came from M. Gordon following a recent trip to Cody’s Dream, where he asked where in the club’s mine the gold is being found. We then introduced a new segment called 'Shop Talk' where we bring up the funniest story or happening from the store. This week we were treated to a drunk ladies shoe ending up tied under Doug’s bumper and learned way too much about Larry’s back hair. The gang then settled into the meat of the show, how to stay active in prospecting across the cold Washington State winter months – outside of the water. In total, four great prospecting opportunities where addressed: working the high water marks outside the normal flood levels, metal detecting, mining and dry gulch hunting and of course working your concentrates. In the course of the conversation, we discussed the value of watching and working rivers at flood, the mechanic of floods and where to find new pay streaks in spring. Very interesting stuff. Lastly, we closed with upcoming member outings and events not to be missed as well as some homework assignments for our audience. First, we would like all our members to go to our forums and give us their opinion on what outings, events and sceminars they would like to see in the coming year. Secondly, we would like your input on the funniest prospector tee-shirt ideas. This one is a contest. If you post the best tee-shirt idea, you win the shirt! Post your great ideas on our forums today!
