Summary: On the evening of December 10, 1964, singer Sam Cooke checked into a motel expecting a sexual dalliance with one of his fans. In the early hours of the next morning, he was shot to death by the motel manager. While she later claimed self-defense, many believe Cooke was assassinated for his civil rights activism.
