EP 368: Planning Out My Season and Other Useful Tips

The Rich Outdoors show

Summary: Today I want to go over a few of the things I am thinking about in planning my upcoming season. First and foremost I want to say that this is just the way I do things and in no way am I say that it is better or worse than the way other people plan their hunts and year. This year, in particular, there has been a pile of questions coming in and I wanted to record this podcast as a way to maybe answer some of those or maybe just help other with how I think about some of these things. In an upcoming episode We are going to talk about hunt plans, and really get into the weeds with that level of planning, but today I wanna talk more about tips I use for getting my life and work in order so allow myself more time to hunt each year.
PUBLIC DISCLAIMER:
I am in no way responsible for any actions or attempts at getting your significant other to increase the appropriate time allotted toward hunting activities. Nor am I to be mentioned in any future conversations regarding where these ideas came from.
Overall this podcast is full of some useful tips to help you get more out of each fall. Having said that I have very aware that everybody is different and everyone has different expectations and goals for each hunt. We are all at different points of our own journey so in no way to I want to say that those guys just looking for a vacation are wrong.
I hope you guys enjoy this podcast and if you do, as always, please leave a comment or share it with a buddy.
Show Notes:

Introduction – 04:04

Balancing Life & Hunting – 09:24

Optimizing Time & Schedule – 24:15

Contingency Plans – 37:33

Unlimited MT Sheep Hunt – 42:26

Making 7 Days Into 10 – 44:42

Getting Comfortable in the Backcountry – 49:56

Actual Opportunities Per Season – 58:37

Elk Rifle Focused 201 – 62:11
This episode is brought to you by Maven Optics. Maven is an optics company that is redefining the optics industry. I have been running Maven optics for going on 3 year now and I can’t speak highly enough about them. This is glass that is right there with the highest level European glass companies for way cheaper. This is why they say Maven is redefining the optics category. You guys are probably familiar with direct to consumer type models as more and more companies are building their business this way. Essentially they are cutting out the middle man and the big box stores and because of this Maven can create a product at the highest level and be considerably cheaper than any other brand because they aren’t paying salespeople.

The other really cool feature of this model of business is that they can also offer an endless amount of custom options. You can actually go to Mavenbuilt.com and build your bino’s to fit you personally. With thousands of options and camp patterns, you can customize your bino’s to you. I personally run the B.2 in 11×45 and freaking love this set of binos. I highly recommend you check them out and I really can’t see why anyone would spend the thousand + extra dollars on a pair of swaros. Personally, I would rather support a small town Wyoming company. Check them out at Mavenbuilt.com and use code “TRO-GIFT” at check out to get a free gift with your purchase. Also if you haven’t yet check out the podcast I did with Brendon, one of the founders. That’s episode 360 where we talk a lot about entrepreneurship and how Maven got started.

This episode is brought to you by On X maps the most trusted maps for public/private mapping and one of the single most important tools in my toolbox. I use On X constantly for everything from scouting to in the field.
