Ep. 33 - Marriage - A Helper Fit for Him

Adorned Podcast show

Summary: Is being a submissive wife outdated?  We don’t believe it is! This episode is a very vulnerable conversation about what submission is according to scripture, how we practically live this out in the day to day, and how we can persevere when it’s not easy.  We both admit that this is NOT always easy and we definitely struggle, but we know that because our creator God designed our roles, submission as a wife is a beautiful thing! Quotes: “Submission is the happy response to a husband’s biblical leadership.” -John Piper   “Submission is the defined calling of a wife to honor and affirm her husband’s leadership, and so help to carry it through according to her gifts.” -John Piper   “Joyful and intelligent submission to the husband’s leadership”   “As a wife we are a helper fit for him.  We are to help him execute his primary position.”   “Submission is so much more about a disposition than it is about a set of behaviors.” -John Piper   “All frustrations come from unmet expectations.” -Matt Chandler   “It’s important to remember that they’re growing in their sanctification, through the Holy Spirit, not through our nagging.”   “By using Christ’s relationship to his church to illustrate what Christian marriage ought to be, Paul highlights the husband’s special responsibility as the wife’s leader and protector and the wife’s calling to accept her husband in that role.  The distinction of roles does not however imply that the wife is inferior as a person, but as God’s image bearers, the husband and the wife have equal dignity and value and are to fulfill their role in the relationship on the basis of mutual respect that is rooted in recognition of this fact.” -J.I.
