EP 237: Mental Toughness and Becoming MTN Tough

The Rich Outdoors show

Summary: Today I am joined by Dustin Diefenderfer of right here in Bozeman Montana. Born and raised in Montana Dustin is a beast on the mountain and loves to push the limits. I met Dustin through the MTN Tough Course here in Bozeman and got the chance to test it out over the last couple months. You have probably heard the ads for this course on the podcast and Dustin is the man behind the scene for the MTN Tough program.
In this episode, Dustin and I dive into the mental toughness aspect of being a backcountry hunter. Not only is this one of my favorite pieces of the puzzle but also what I feel is the difference between being good and being great. We also dive into how hunting has such a much larger impact on making you a better human than is often talked about. Dustin is one of those guys who pushes the group and is always leading both mentally and physically. I really love this episode and believe this is one of the most underrated aspects to any backcountry hunt.

For over a year, behind the scenes MTNTOUGH has been building an online training program specifically designed for Backcountry Hunters They have assembled an impressive team for this task, including a former Navy Seal, a former Army Colonel who instructed physical education at Westpoint, and couple trainers with decades of experience. I tested the program here in Bozeman, with Dustin Diefenderfer, the founder of MTN TOUGH and let me tell you this program will kick your butt. Over the years I have done a ton of various work out programs. with the last couple years spending most of my time running and using kettle-bells I was in pretty good shape when I started this workout and quickly realized this program is going to crush muscles I forgot I had. Make sure and go to mtntough.com to get on the waiting list to be one of the first to get access to the program in June.
Oh, and MTN TOUGH is giving away 3 LIFETIME MEMBERSHIPS to 3 winners who have their name on the waiting list.

This episode brought to you by On X maps. On X is the most trusted private/ public mapping system available and any more I don’t go anywhere without my On X maps. The On X Hunt app available on your phone turns your smartphone into a handheld GPS that works with or without service. With over 400 map overlays the possibilities are endless. I love the ability to switch from topo, to satellite, to hybrid modes, allowing you to see actual terrain thickness. The On X hunt app allows you to share locations with your buddies extremely easily and I find myself using this feature all the time. You can also log into your On X account from multiple sources allowing you to scout from your desktop or tablet and explore with confidence with your smartphone or GPS.
On X membership is a must have for any serious western hunter.
