Summary: Does a credit score really matter? And how can you make it better if it does? In this episode, I talk about how much your credit score matter for the big milestones in life such as getting a mortgage, renting a house, getting car and home insurance, and even getting a job. When it comes to increasing your credit score, there are 5 simple things to be aware of. 1) Payment History - pay your bills on time! 2) Credit Utilization - use the least amount of credit that is available to you 3) Length of Credit History - the longer you've had credit lines, the better (also, don't ever close an old card) 4) Credit Mix / Credit Lines - Lenders like to see that you can be responsible with multiple different kinds of credit, such as credit cards, student loans, a mortgage, car loans, etc. (But don't go out and get a loan just to help this score!) 5) New Credit - Applying for a lot of credit cards in the short term will hurt your credit score and decrease your average age of credit, but as long as you are responsible in the long term, it's not a big deal.
