#65.1 – MLB Playoffs, The Start of Basketball and the Bloody Rule of the Week

That One Sports Show show

Summary:
Would You Rather…

Listener submitted (pdroll): Would you rather have your team NOT make the playoffs at all? Or have your team make the playoffs and lose immediately Let us know in the comments below.

Geoff is all about his team being good, but not quite good enough, especially when it comes to basketball, claiming that being the 8th seed is worthless. John is much more open and willing to see his teams lose immediately in the playoffs, but that’s easy to say when your baseball team is headed to the World Series and your favorite football team is 0-6.

Toss Up

Who will have more points on opening night in Cleveland on Tuesday during the Knicks vs. Cavs game: LeBron or Carmelo?

Last Week: Colin Kaepernick Turnovers (1 Fumble, recovered) vs. Total TDs (1 Touchdown) (@Bills). Those picking Touchdowns over Turnovers technically win this one as Kap fumbled, but had it recovered by the 49ers. They still laid a big ol fart against the Bills, but John must admit defeat.

NFL Pickem Update

anh1608 in first (51-41) Moskalk in last (35-41)

NBA Opening Night

NBA opening night next Wednesday and Geoff is super excited. It will all kick off with the Cavs taking on the Knicks in Cleveland on Tuesday night. After an offseason that saw a huge amount of trades, acquisitions and retirements, what will the 2016-2017 season hold?! If you want to listen to a great basketball podcast, definitely give Perimeter Players a listen.

Tim Tebow Strikes

Tim Tebow is off the schneid. Tebow singled on a line drive to left field in his second at-bat on Tuesday with Scottsdale. We’d previously talked about his miserable start to the Arizona Fall League, but with this recent hit, could he be turning things around?

Rule of the Week

Trevor Bauer pitched with a bloodied right pinky after a fluke drone accident last week. After receiving 10 stitches, Bauer attempted to pitch during game 3. The result was a bloody mess and it’s all because pitchers are allowed to have no foreign substance on their hands/wrists etc. The rule is most likely only in place because people would probably put sandpaper or other abrasive strips on their fingers to scuff up the ball. The rule is below.

According to Major League Baseball Rule 6.02(c)(7) Comment (Rule 8.02(b) Comment): “The pitcher may not attach anything to either hand, any finger or either wrist (e.g., Band-Aid, tape, Super Glue, bracelet, etc.). The umpire shall determine if such attachment is indeed a foreign substance for the purpose of Rule 6.02(c)(7) (Rule 8.02(b)), but in no case may the pitcher be allowed to pitch with such attachment to his hand, finger or wrist.”

Columbus Crew Moving Downtown?

The Columbus Crew are kicking around the idea of possibly moving to a new location in Columbus. Where would be a good spot? What makes the most sense and do the Crew need a stadium that seats more than 20,000 fans?

Under Armour Pens MLB Deal

Beginning in 2020, Under Armour will be the official jersey manufacturer for the MLB. Is this a good move? Will there be color rush jerseys? Only time will tell.
