After receiving 10 stitches, Bauer attempted to pitch during game 3. The result was a bloody mess and it’s all because pitchers are allowed to have no foreign substance on their hands/wrists etc. The rule is most likely only in place because people would probably put sandpaper or other abrasive strips on their fingers to scuff up the ball.
