The first came early, way back in 1920, as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Toronto St. Patrick’s 14-7. 65 years later, their record was tied as Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 12-9 on December 11, 1985. The most goals scored by one team in an NHL game was 16. The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Quebec Bulldogs 16-3 on March 3, 1920.
