Sam Lallas - Healing Crohn's Disease with a Raw Vegan Diet

The Healthy Harmony Podcast show

Summary: After suffering from stomach problems for her entire childhood, Sam was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when she was 14 years old. She was put on a “white diet”—the standard protocol for people suffering from Crohn’s and other digestive disorders—which consisted of white, fiberless foods like white bread, sugary cereals, egg whites, etc. She also began taking over a dozen prescription medications aimed to relieve her of the painful symptoms she was experiencing. This protocol helped Sam to feel better, and to be able to live a “normal” life (in which she didn’t need to spend half the day in the bathroom). But it didn’t make her feel particularly great, and it also didn’t do anything to HEAL the disease—it simply abated the symptoms. After years of eating and living this way, she started playing around with her diet and eventually found veganism, and then finally raw veganism. Most doctors would say that eating fruits and vegetables is a suicidal act for your digestive health if you have Crohn’s disease—these foods are FULL of fiber! But she had faith in what she was doing and followed that trust, truly giving the diet a try. Within weeks, she started noticing big differences in the way that she felt. Within a few months, she was completely symptom free and was eventually able to stop taking all of her medications. She has an amazing story. And the best part is that I truly believe it’s just the beginning. I’m excited to share this conversation. It’s the first that I ever recorded for the podcast! I know that I have grown a lot in my interviewing skills since recording this, so the perfectionist in me is a little upset about that. But I still want to share it. We all have to start somewhere! And honestly, there’s a lot of really good content in this conversation, and Sam’s story deserves to be shared far and wide! So here you go. I hope you enjoy it! Get in touch with Sam!
