Curious Facts About the Brain with Avery Rogers

The Recovery Warrior Show show

Summary: While writing, hosting, and producing a podcast is no small feat, neither is attending high school. Today's guest happens to do both! Avery Rogers is an incredibly intelligent high school senior who operates the Brainstorms podcast and website. While going through treatment at UCSD's Eating Disorders Treatment & Research center, Avery learned a lot about the cutting edge neuroscience research behind eating disorders and how it related to her recovery personally. Armed with curiosity to learn more she started Brainstorms, the only neuroscience podcast that happens to be dedicated to the teenage brain. Avery's passion for researching the teen brain not only benefits her listeners, but it has profoundly benefitted her own recovery from an eating disorder. Today she shares how science, mindfulness, and gratitude have brought encouragement and a sense of comfort to her on her own journey of recovery. What You'll Learn: • The profound impact of habits on the brain • How to harness the positive personality traits that may come from an eating disorder • When is the best time to create new habits • How gratitude can make space for more joy in your life as well as enhance your quality of life • At what point goal setting and high achievement can become a way to numb emotion Show Notes: www.recoverywarriors.com/avery-rogers Participate in UCSD's research studies!
