I would give this a 4.5 out of 5 on my buy rating. The only issue I see is 7 inch tablets seem to be the standard right now but I think 8-9 inches is better for anyone with vision problems even if the buttons on screen are large. Also would like to see the option of some other wireless carrier than Verizon, maybe T-Mobile option, that way it will cover both CDMA(code division multiple access) or GSM(global system for mobile communications) signal. I do like that it does not require you to have Internet and is always on. Pricing for custom built 7-inch tablet and membership is $60/month with NO long-term commitment needed, month-to-month, satisfaction guaranteed and shipping and handling fee may apply.  TED #143 – AgeTech Expo 2015 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 64:46

Aging 2.0 AgeTech Expo 2015 3rd annual Pitch-for-Pilots where 12 market-ready companies will pitch to senior care providers in the audience in hopes of securing pilot partners. Attendees then vote in real-time on the quality of the pitch, idea, and the degree to which it meets a need. Senior care providers then will have the opportunity to submit an application to pilot with the companies in the exhibit area. The 12 pitches are chosen out of 500 companies that applied. This year only 11 presented as one was not ready. They have four minutes to present. This is a video showing those 11 pitches. The companies range from B2B(business-to-business) solutions to consumer level products. Attendees range from organizations across the continuum of long-term care, specifically Independent Living, Assisted Living, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, nursing homes, PACE, adult day services, home care and emerging community-based service models. Companies: AgeWell Biometrics CareAngel remotely monitoring. CareAcademy educating caregivers. Luvozo SAM robotic concierge. RespondWell telerehabilitation software. Revolve Robotics Kubi telepresence robot. Smartcare non-invasive devices, data analysis and reports. Spectra Health secure communication for modern care. TeleVisit virtual communities. The History Project where memories come to life. TouchStream Solutions tablet-based monitoring system for independent living. This is my first time with any video productions so I have to apologize in advance that some video or audio might not be the best quality. As I work towards the CES2016 event in January, I hope to have things worked out better. This is still very valuable content that may be of interest. This was my second time at an event, and my first annual expo. It is the best resource I have found so far that covers a wide range of products and services for the 50+ age group. Besides the pitches their will be many individual company reviews on future podcasts that came from this event as many other companies had booths there. I hope to continue to follow Aging 2.0 in the future to give updates and for it be a source for new and innovative products and services for the Elder communities and organizations that support them.  TED #142 Podcast Extras – MemoryWell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:04

MemoryWell digital technology makes it easy for families to enhance their loved ones’ care from near and far by enabling them to upload favorite music, photos, videos, and readings to our mobile interface. They are trained, professional journalists who create portable memories for those who have trouble remembering. The life stories written about your loved one with Alzheimer’s and Dementia disease, helping caregivers understand and connect with them, and become keepsakes for families. Elders with Alzheimer’s and Dementia don't know who they are without the stories of there life they no longer remember. When you are in an assisted living or nursing home you can feel secluded. Your caregivers don't know of your life, so how can they help the situation. This is why MemoryWell came together with journalists as a solution. They can gather from friends and family all the stories, photos, memorabilia, music, videos and other stuff of your life. Then with technology create something of a life story to engage the caregivers with residents. This should enhance care and improve life for all. Because stories connect people and provide valuable information. These narratives of life can be used for activities that engage the caregivers and residents. Kind of like what I discuss by using technology to detour around the divide of you on one side and them the other. This is done by creating short portable stories or memories on a platform everyone from residents, friends, family and caregivers can benefit from. The co-founder Jay Newton-Small had to move his dad into a long-term Alzheimer’s care. None had ways to engage with his dad as he slipped away. It started as a questionnaire about his life. This was to small a sample for them to understand his life. With the ever-shrinking world of memories their had to be a solution. Technology could keep you connected with your loved ones. To better their care and to give you a menu of engagement tools when you visit. The web-based platform makes your loved one's stories and favorite digital photos, music, videos and readings easily available to you and to their caregivers no matter where you are. Caregivers who use the system get better understanding and make everyone happier. What they do: - Trained professional journalists create portable memories for those who have trouble remembering. - Life stories can become keepsakes for families. - Digital technology makes it easy for families to enhance their loved ones’ care from near and far. How it works: - Alzheimer’s homes hire them to preserve the life stories of residents by interviewing family and friends. - Written short narratives that caregivers use to personally engage with residents and better plan activities. - For extra, families can buy a longer version and/or a video version. - A mobile interface hosts all the multimedia and families can add to them for a subscription fee. Who they are: - Journalists weave cherished moments into a narrative tapestry. - They help reduce the isolation of long-term care. - Their storytelling and technology can build a community where none currently exists. My mom has Dementia and I see how she forgets things or her mind creates her own version of things. Like many with memory disease they forget or just create a new reality to replace what is lost. Sometimes just removing themselves from everyday life. I see her with good and bad days and I remember the short information the assisted living took from her and me. They have too many residents to know all that would help engage and enhance care. This would be and excellent program for every long-term care facility to use. Kind of like the SingFit program I had discussed in a previous podcast. Anything that can give the staff better tools is a plus. Otherwise it is kind of a unfamiliar place for residents to be.

 TED #127 Podcast Extras – Pivotal Living | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:57

Pivotal Living a health and wellness technology platform. Activity plus sleep tracking band. The $12 membership cycle is one year in length (pre-paid) and will never automatically renew. Your affordable wearable choice for fitness and activity tracking with or without the Android or iOS App. This wearable band is cost effective, easy to use and allows for annual refresh with renewable membership. They believe in building wearable technology at price points that everyone can afford and don’t believe in charging a high upfront cost for their products, and instead hope that members will be members for life. Features: - Easy to use one button controls on band. - Goal setting. - Sleep Mode track the hours you sleep, as well as your movement during sleep to help you understand your sleep quality. - Silent Alarm vibrates to wake or alert you with its “Silent Alarm” feature. - Hydration & Weight tracking. - Inactivity monitoring Reminder. - Mobile Motion Activity monitoring. - Bluetooth syncing with App. - 3-Axis sensor technology. - Water resistant. - OLED screen. - Clock. Stopwatch mode. - 60 minutes charge allows for 5-7 day battery life. Battery indicator on Band and App. - USB Charging cable included. - Android & iOS Apps. Benefits: - Understanding of sleep quality. - Trending for all modes. - Alarms and reminders. - Monitor your hydration and weight. This is a device that I have a review unit. It is boxed in a minimal eco-friendly packaging with band, cable and instructions. I would give this a 4 out of 5 only because it basic and does not contain advanced sensors and features like more expensive bands that track pulse, heartrate, oximetry, bloodsugar or GPS. Also band could be a little longer and as I had it on last hole as my wrists are large and maybe a third wider for comfort. Display seems a bit small for Elders with vision problems. Has good vibration mode. But for the price it will work very nicely for Elders in their daily needs and ease of use. As mentioned is costs only $12 annual membership with renewablity and refresh to newer band if you like. You could pay more for such a band as this, compared to others costing $49-$99 and above. This would be great for yourself, family members or caregivers needing basic health and activity tracking. Looking forward to next model and improvements.
